is it a single or dual vanos ???

Post by Adam »

I'm biting the bullet and going for the BBTB & Manifold kit for the zed.

I just want to confirm though that my car is a single vanos as the kit wont work with a dual vanos.

The build date on the car says JUL 1998
Its a 98 s reg 2.8

if its the single (which i think it is) then the cheque is going to ian for the bits....and then I can have some fun.

Single Vanos. DV came with the M52TU engine in 1999.

Where do you find the build date and engine code, its not on my V5

Real OEM shows a build date for me of 10/98.

I was under the impression that I had a DV engine

Please don't tell me Wikipedia!

On a sticker on one of the suspension strut towers under the bonnet.

RealOEM should show also you your engine designation if you enter the last 7 digits of your VIN.

Cheers R.

I have got an October 1998 biuld date as well???

Double Vanos? - Single Vanos... How can I be sure?

Is there anything on the engine itself that is distinctive?

real OEM gives this info:

'P Z3 roa Z3 2.8 M52 ECE 19981000 R N'

Have a look at the Engine :o at the front of the inlet camshaft [at the front of the engine] you will see an aluminium housing, go down and to the left a bit to where the Exh camshaft is and there you should see another housing, just the same.
so 2 hsgs = twin. 1 hsg = single :) :)

"X" = Inlet Hsg. Exh is down and to the left. this is a 2002, 3L but 2.8L should be the same as far as I know, hope it sheds some light on the mystery

I can see 2 housings, the seccond one you refer to is about 3 inches down and to the left... there appears to be a couple of bolt heads on the front facing side of this lower housing that you describe.

I havnt seen both types, so it is not immediately apparent.

Yes that is the one phb, on the pic below you can make out the 2 studs with the nuts on them, you will also see a couple of electrical leads coming from the unit, I know it needs a bit of a clean, aluminium castings are a s*d for oxidation :)
