While removing and greasing wheel nuts discovered that the fitting for the locking wheel nuts is slipping on all wheels, has anyone any helpful hints on how to remove the locking wheel nuts, Thanx Briguy

I did mine the other day and had the same problem as you,
i had to tap the fitting in beause it was very worn in the end i got 2 new ones only costing £4 each from BMW
but you have to take some form of identification with you

It appears that the socket is worn or flattened. even when hammered on as soon as pressure is applied the socket slips off.

If it is the key that it is worn, you may be able to order another one from BMW. They may want to see the old one for security. You local $tealers parts desk should be able to tell you.

Other than that, can you get enough purchase with a set of mole grips?

Cheers R.

Damage

Post by Guest »

It sounds like the type of damage caused by a careless tyre fitter using a power wrench.

I would try fitting the key into the bolt head using something like Loctite Quickmetal or similar, to take up the clearance, and then undo the bolt by hand, using plaenty of leverage.
