Removal of bonnet badge

Post by TitanTim »

Hiya,

Does anyone know how the bonnet badge is attached ? Ie double sided tape or mastic. One of the letters is slightly tarnished from a stone chip so have ordered a replacement. I think the badge has two locating prongs but knowing how its attached would help if anyone could advise.

Thanks

Tim

Bonnet Badge

I presume it's the same as the boot one - friction fit 2 prongs.
Remove carefully with blade/screwdriver protecting the surrounding area.

Two prongs

Post by Titan »

If you open the bonnet and look up behind the kidney grills you can see the two prongs sticking down.

I watched a guy at the $tealers body shop change the one on our boot lid (when it was replaced under corrosion warranty last year :) )

He used a tack lifter and a piece of old tupperware lunch box to protect the paint work. Work you way gradually rouond the badge lifitn it a little bit at a time. Once it is a few mm out chock the opposite side with a thin piece of wood or plastic.

It took the guy about 30 secs - but he's probably done it few dozen times more than most :!:

Hi Titan,

Many thanks for the tips, replacement badge arrived today and took all of 5 mins to fit. The badge is secured by 2 prongs that fit into a rubber grommit and prizes off, it is not secured by any double sided tape or mastic. I used a flat round ended kitchen knife and a thin strip of plastic which I slipped behind the badge first to protect the paintwork. Slip the knife gently behind the badge on one side and prize it upwards slightly. Do the same the other side enough to get your finger tips around the edge and pull the badge off.

Clean the paintwork up and wax it and I put a smear of waxoil to protect against any trapped moisture. New badge simply pushes back on. Job done :)

Hope the above helps,

Cheers,

Am surprised that it is not stuck on with self-adhesive pads as well - the ones on the gills definitely are as I had a bugger of a job getting mine off to do the same job there after some the lettering came off. I had to push at the pins from the back to get mine off.

The old badge was pretty firmly attached as the 2 plastic prongs on the back are a snug fit in the guide holes, glad it wasn't stuck on as well. the replacement badge came from nm-motorsport, very fast delivery, a little pricey at £19 though

Hi sfiac. Part number looks to be 51148132375 and cost is about a tenner from $tealer. See the second part #11 on this diagram.
