Hello, I'm a newie and my alarm keeps going off!!

Post by Bluecar »

Hi, Got my beauuuutiful Atlantis blue 1.9 Z3 a month ago and I am in love! Turning in to a bit of a nerd and the neighbours keep making fun cause my other half and I spend our quality time together cleaning her!! Wept  when someone thought it clever to put a 6" scratch along the back wing just for fun. The trouble is, she has to be kept on the road and a big problem I am having, is when taxis (seems to be diesels) stop anywhere near her to let out their fares, it sets off the alarm. Any ideas why this should be or how to guard against it happening?
If you see me driving around Dorset give me a wave. I shall put in a photo as soon as I learn how or get my son to do it for me. :!:

Sorry no idea. BTW if it helps, when you lock with the key, I don't think the car is alarmed

By The Way......

Could also be your interior ultrasonics triggering when it's windy (detecting rear screen flex or something blowing around in the car). Try disabling the interior sensors (by pressing the alarm light until it flashes) before setting the alarm - it shows you how in the manual :rtm:

On mine (a '97 2.8) they're in the top corners of the windscreen. Not sure if they're in the same place on the facelift zed.

Mine isn't a facelift but couldn't see the sensors hence reason for asking.

On my 1999 2.8, they're either side of the bulkhead, in the footwells.

The usual problem with the alarm is the sensor at the bonnet, it is the push up and down thing to the right of the bonnet lock on th body work , A new one cost less than a tenner and is so easy to fit ,I manged it.A spray of WD40 can help in the meantime.

...or the plunger isn't going down far enough when the bonnet is closed. I've found that a self-adhesive drawer/cupboard door rubber bumpstop from MFI works a treat
