few questions about my zed

Post by Silver2.8 »

O.k. is it weird that when i have the lights on at night they kind of flicker / dim certain times? Is it common for the 2.8 5speed to sound like a airplane when letting off the gas in gear like a kind of quiet wining noise? Is there any super mods I would have to do to put in a 300w jbl sub in it like change the altinator? Why do the seats move when hitting the brakes hard or taking off hard? why is the ac fan always on?

Hi Silver2.8,

Lights definitely have a problem. My guess would be a poor connection somewhere, or possibly the alternator on its way out (???). I'd start by checking the battery terminals are tight, and then the earth points near the headlights.

The seat rocking is a known problem. Get some replacement bushes from Doug Whalen (he's in the States). It's quite an involved fix, as it involves taking the seats out, but it is quite well documented. Search for "Seat rocking kebab fix" on here. Best thread I think is this. At some point I need to do this to mine.

Can't help with the other three, sorry.

Cheers R.

As regard the noise when lifting off the throttle.....I have had that with mine since I bought it. Doesn't happen all the time, just occasionally, mainly when easing off from 60 mph or higher.
Had 2 dealers and 2 indies try to find out what it is and nobody has any ideas.

My lights were dimming at certain times too, after much head scratching I noticed it only occurred when the aircon was on and the compressor kicks in, so I think that its normal cos the compressor eats current. Turned aircon off and no dimming lights. just use it when its a hot day.... some chance hey!!

The dimming of the lights occurs in my Z as well when the air con is on. Not something to be worried about unless you have a low charge level on the battery.

Hi,

The lights on my 2.8 dim whenever I press the brake peddle... Have changed the battery but it still happens.

Anyone got any ideas?

Ollie, a dodgy ground could cause this issue along with your speedo problem.
