Which Red?
Which Red?
I just bought a 1999 1.9 Z3 Roadster. It's a really vivid red, but the BMW dealer I bought it from doesn't seem to know which red it is. Am I missing something obvious/being dim?
Probably bright red.

You have to be very carefull with 'red' Z3s!!
I think this website is wrong....
There were two Bright Red (Hell Rot in German) colours used on the Z3, true enough, but these were:
415 Bright Red
415/2 Bright Red 2
The change happened in 2000, I have brochures from early and late 2000 showing the two different colours.
Bright Red 2 is a lot brighter, slightly orange in certain lights. Bright Red (1) is duller and tends to suffer more from UV, loosing its umph.
By far the best way is to look under the bonnet at the label, it'll say 415 or 415/2.
Just a by-the-by..... I was told last week that BMW are not stocking spray paints for 415/2 (and I assume the older 415) any more
........ and don't try and get 415/2 mixed by Halfords because you end up with 415... I know, I tried.
I had to go to a body-shop and get some mixed professionally.
Example of Hell Rot 2 below....mine
