what miles

Post by roofis303 »

ok guys and girls . my z3 has just turned 114k . and i can say my car runs good starts first time everyday . i use my car everyday for doing the school run and then going to work . i may be wrong but i have a friend with a z3 also and his one has done 58k . and my car feels much better to drive than his one . my engine is smoother and it runs better than his one . how much miles does your cars have on the clock just a matter of intrest lets hear it . my car had full service history . never missed a service yet . i think if my car engine has done 114k and still feels good . engine still very good i mean . i cant see why it cant do another 114k . coz the 114k miles that my car has done has made no effect to the engine at all . so i think that its pritty bullet proof if u ask me . but saying that i dont thrash my car into the ground and i do take care of it . engine also i dont go over 30 till the engine is nice and warm .

just my tuppence worth ppl

My 2.8 has covered 103,000 miles, and is still in fine condition, with zero oil consumption, and an average consumption of 34/36 mpg, with 38/40 if driven carefully.

It is maintained (over-maintained I suppose) by me.

I would expect it to do at least an easy 250,000 miles - VW expect their engines to do 400,000 with good maintenance.

My 2.0 has just short of 60k on the clock, zero oil consumption, averaging 27-29 mpg (with the modified air intake, thanks to Mike for the info  ) mainly in town driving. The only issues that have been brought up at it's MOT last year was a worn rear left tyre (long since replaced) and this year, a hazard warning switch. Until the car is warmed up, revs are kept below 3000.

I change the brakes roughly once a year myself, and let BMW Coopers in Tunbridge Wells service it. No complaints.

50k on the dot as of yesterday! Only had it for 18 months but in that time I've covered 11k miles and had no problems whatsoever. No OIl consumption, coolant never a problem, engine has never gone warmer than the midpoint on the dial and as with Justin I don't get above 3000 revs until the engine is at that point. After that, of course the revs might increase slightly!

Not much mileage going onto my Zeds over the last couple of years as they are on the other side of the world being stored - one way of not wearing them out I guess but I miss them badly.

My 2.8 has 43K and my M Coupe has 18K on it ...

I have a 97 2.8 but it only has 48k now - still seems as tight as when new.

In South Africa I have (parents now have...) a 98 318iS with the 1.9 M44 and that has just over 300k km or 180k miles. No big issues apart from climate control and air-con, themostat and rear wheel bearings. Pretty good going I think.
I used to have a '97 2.8 Z3 50k FOR SALE £4699 Shorter 'M' Cup Sport gear knob,M Steering wheel, Alpine / Infinity audio, 18" Alpina style wheels, Clear indicators all round, cold air feed and modified airbox. Miss April in the '09 Calendar.

 Oh Dear,
Late 2001 3.0ltr Titanium silver/red leather, 16000ks (10000mls).
But all miles were for the pure pleasure of driving it. Have an old ford which I use everyday, so it keeps the milage, vandalism, insurance down. Nothing beats taking it out early in the morning for a run with the hood down, before the traffic builds up. Tin toppers dont know what their missing. Not many production cars drive as responsively as the Z. Wouldnt change it for the world (maybe for a Z3M with as low milage).
Doesnt matter what mileage your car has, its how it is maintained/driven and cared for that makes the difference. Hope you all are enjoying your great cars.

61k on a 2000 2.8 Auto - it failed its last MOT on a leaking front suspension but got them both done for £300 - personally think the grease monkey had dirty hands because I have not noticed before or after any difference in the drive or handling and I do drive it very very hard - oh I am such a naughty boy on the straight bits! When I picked it up 2nd user it only had 2400 miles on it and the next day drove 800miles to the south of France - what an experience that was - all the way with the top down - funniest thing that happed was I put the top up when we got into the hotel for the overnight stop and next day drove out and released the top at traffic lights in the town and got a round of applause!!!!! Dont you all just love being stared at! Ohh I feel a quick polish coming on.............................

My zed has just cracked 42k, about 40k of them mine, and the rest my done by my dad - that equates to about 4k a year. Still has a way to go before it gets to the same mileage as my other car, which just passed 75k yesterday - but that only equates to about 1.5k a year. :P

17.5k was in the first year too!

Low Mileage Record

Post by BarneyBoko »

I think I have the low mileage record here, 2001 X reg, 2.2 sixpot, 22k miles. I got it in May this year, FSH from dealer, last year it did 800 miles between MOT,s. That aint ever going to happen again !!!

It looks like they have to have had to service mine on age rather than mileage as it has twice as many as it needed.

I think its still running in and expect it to peaking at about 40k which is about 2 years away.

hearing about the high mileages on her makes me smile, as this motor of mine could become an heirloom.

In for the longhaul

So far the lowest mileage is Kruisn above with an absolutely criminal 10K miles only :) ... and my M Coupe has only 18K on it too. Looks like the antipodeans need to do a bit more driving...

Do wonder if 10K is the lowest on the forum ...

2001 3.0L Titan Silver, Blue leather. Bought last year with 33k. Now showing 46k. Just had service at 45k. New front brakes fitted inc calipers.

Use it everyday, everywhere.

Drove the 2.0, 2.2, 2.8, 3.0 and 3.2M.

3.0 provided more than enough grunt with a class engine note.

Oil change every 2.5k

Did tramline really bad. Eibachs have magically somehow cured 95% of the problem.

Z3, if the exhaust tips were cooler.......i'd leave the wife ! ;-)

Just ticked over to 90k on mine - had it for 4 1/2 years when i bought it with 17k on the clock. Can honestly say, albeit being a little "looser" in places, its better to drive than when I first had it. Only cosmetic things have gone wrong in its time and had regular BMW services along the way!

Front heated seat element has just gone on me now though... the little bugger :(

Bought a 2.0 ltr z3 2 weeks ago.
1 fanatical owner before me.
Full BMWSH at my local dealership.
She is mint inside and out. Hood A1 also as has Hardtop ( )
She has covered 107,000 miles. :!:
Runs perfectly. Had a 325 1994 convertible many years ago with low milage and that did not run as sweet as this one!!
It purrs as only a BMW can. Polished her up big time over weekend and she is like a new pin!
Love it to bits! :D
So to you low "milers" out there GET DRIVING!! Enjoy it and love it don't treat it as a museum peace!!! They go on forever!!

Low Miles!!!!!

Post by SRP 69 »

What about seeing who owns the lowest mileage Z ?
Mines a 1999 T 2.8 Manual every extra from new except cruise control.
Believe it or not 19850 miles since new with 9 BMW stamps in the history.
The colour is non-metallic jet black which is soo shiney+totally original with tannin red sports seats. I work for mercedes-benz in Glasgow and when this was traded in i couldnt resist!!!!! There is always lots of people who think its a waste of a good car not to use it but i plan on keeping it forever!!! it would break my heart to see it covered in salt etc.I do around 1500 miles a year and thoroughly enjoy looking after it throughout the year. Everybody says it will never be a classic but i disagree because of the originality and low mileage of this car i believe it will!!! I would be interested to know what everybody thought I have been a member on here for a while+i will try to put pictures on one day!!!

Many people consider the Austin Allegro to be a classic - so I'd wager you're right - but there's still only £4k difference in value between a rusted out shell and a 15K mile minter.

I don't pretend to understand people that think like yourself (there's nowt wrong with what you think) as I think a car is for driving and it's nice to drop the roof and take the scenic route home if the sky's clear when you come out of work, do you never think "oh I wish I was in the Z now"

But back on topic- mines a '98 1.9, clocked up 100,000 about a fortnight ago now another 800 miles on it's way to the next 100k. serviced every 9 - 10k, before I bought it 20 months ago all at the dealers it was originally bought from and that sold it to me even the bulbs were changed by them, after it came out of warranty I've taken it to a local trusted back street place.

Probs I've had - snapped rear spring, knacked alarm, exploded water pump at about 98k and a O/S window regulator.

2002 Pistachio Green 2.2 sport, just hit 20 000 miles, used as only car. Annual oil changes and has anything else done that is needed at local BMW dealers. Had it from new and has never given any problems apart from a single flat tyre... As a dumb blonde, I had to get someone out (BMW owners club people- free of charge in first few years) to change the tyre as I couldn't understand the hieroglyphic instructions on how to release the spare wheel lol :)
Would be in mint condtion if some b....d hadn't keyed the boot last week :bawl:

Almost 96k now on my Zed - had her nearly 5 years and 80k miles! Touch wood nothing out of the ordinary bar wear and tear has ever been replaced - fully serviced from the same main dealer.

I will be preparing a post for when she hits her 100k birthday, detailing the routine work that was carried out - be interesting to see any other high milers had similar parts replaced over the course of their ownership.

Well i'm a newb thats taken Zeee plunge. Just purchased a 2002 model 3.0i Sport - metallic grey. Only had the thing a week. I was concerned with the miles being at 69,000. Car has full BMW service history and car needed a service... was feeling flush so booked in at Coopers tunny wells. dreading the worst and a massive bill :( shock horror, one sixty quid part and an oil service i'm done. Only problem that I have is that I CANT STOP SMILING !! One of the most awesome cars i've owned. Going to take her out for a BIG spin this weekend - if you seem me, flash me. If your in a zee, female, attractive and single flash me twice

94500 miles on my 1.9. Bought it on Oct 2007 with 68k on. It needs new rear coil springs (no big deal) and some cleaning. But no oil useage whatsoever, never misses a bit and I'm very happy with it.

80,000 miles on a 2000 Z3m roadster. only done 300 miles in it since getting beginning of Jan, but wanted a summer weekend toy, drove like a dream so was not put off by mileage, more concerned with condition and driving experience. For the money you can't get better value.

For info those of you looking at low mileage...... when I picked up mine I wanted a car cover so went to my local dealer (Halliwell Jones Warrington). Given the price I wanted to see one first so the guy from parts took me to their onsite storage warehouse. There were 6 Z3's parked up all under covers. He said the owner collected "prime" trade in's (there were another 10 cars under covers, various models). I could not see the cars properly under the covers but whilst examining one cover there was definately an S54 ///M model judging by the colour of the alloys. The parts guy said some of them only had a few k on the clock and one was under 1k

My 98 2.8 z3 is about to hit 107,000miles. I had it from 94,543miles just about a year and a half ago. its my daily runner.

Its as solid as a rock. Full BMWSH and if it needs something it has it and the best, serviced as it says in the book and onboard computer. Between services it never uses oil, water etc. starts first time every weather.

The only things I have ever had to do to the car is top up the washer bottle, a new set of tyres (general wear & tear) and I had a high pressure power steering pipe go.....got the part on ebay for a fiver.

my biggest expense is probably all the valeting stuff. :)

Being over 10 years old many other cars would be falling to bits most likely or niggly problems. As my car has a private dateless plate, alot of people think my car is only a couple of years old and are staggered at its age, mileage and condition. It drives better then many new cars I have tested.

I'm looking at trading my MX5 in for a 1999 2.8 z3, it has 125,000 on the clock and full service history. It had 500 + spent on it recently, in comparison the mx5 has 53000 on the clock and I have only had it a few months, the dealer is doing a straight swap. What to do??? :head:
