Heated door mirrors?
Heated door mirrors?
I was just wondering if all Z3 had heated door mirrors as standard?
Well I only ask because mine has lots extras. Air con, heated leather seats. I wonderd if my mirrors were heated? Just took a look at parkers seems a lot of Z3 had heated mirrors as standard...Is there a switch or do they just heat up automatically?BimBeema wrote:No, don't think they do as standard.

As I recall (but my memory is starting to get fuzzy on these details), if the car was specced with heated seats, it then got the heated mirrors and heated washer spray nozzles.

AFAIK Just all Z3 ///M have heated wing mirrors, and they are on all the time. This had to be specced on all other Z3 as additional equipment so not all, and probably few non ///M Z3 have this feature. I know my 2.0 doesn't.

Here's a couple of links to options lists for Z3's showing that if you specced heated seats, you got heated mirrors as well - the option is called "Heated Front Seats w/Heated Mirrors".///M_aniac wrote:AFAIK Just all Z3 ///M have heated wing mirrors, and they are on all the time. For example, my Z3 with heated seats does have heated mirrors as well.

Yeah, they are on all the time in the Z3 - come on at ignition key position 2 and stay on - it's in the owners manual somewhere ...PhoenixCoupe wrote:Can't say about the Z3, but, on every other BMW I've had, they came on with the heated rear screen. Thanks Kiwi, how long do they take to take effect with mirrors are misted up...mine might be broken and not heating the mirror.Kiwi wrote:Yeah, they are on all the time in the Z3 - come on at ignition key position 2 and stay on - it's in the owners manual somewhere ...PhoenixCoupe wrote:Can't say about the Z3, but, on every other BMW I've had, they came on with the heated rear screen. Are you sure about the heated spray nozzles, I have heated seats and mirrors but the spray nozzles look standard to me.Kiwi wrote:No.RB007 wrote:I was just wondering if all Z3 had heated door mirrors as standard?

Not many Z3's have a heated rear screen switchPhoenixCoupe wrote:Can't say about the Z3, but, on every other BMW I've had, they came on with the heated rear screen. I'd say if they're on all the time, there's something wrong there.
Mine are on all the time too.

Well key word "confused" spring to mind! This Morning it was frosty and had get the ice off the, windows etc.. So I did a test, I did not touch the mirrors and had the car running to warm up. The mirrors did not de mist at all? I was waiting ten minutes and nothing! My friends honda accord has heated mirrors and takes three minutes to de mist!
Humm - I'm not sure about this - mine has heated sports seats but I'm pretty sure it doesn't have heated mirrors - doesn't demist and is cold to the touch. Wifey's compact has heated mirrors and they demist pretty quickly, the compact is an ES model which had these inlcuded in the spec, along with heated washer jets, parking sensors, etc.Kiwi wrote:

I think the Z3's didn't have such things as ES, so heated mirrors and easher jets would've been optional extras.
Estocks started a useful thread here and posted some good photos of the mirror heater wiring.

On my 1997 1.9 I have one heared mirror (driver's side) and one non-heated mirror. I have only had the glass out of the non-heated side and there is no sign of any heater wiring so
1) it was there and has subsequently been taken out, or
2) it wasn't there and heating has been added to the drivers's side post-purchase or
3) the car was supplied like that.
I do not have heated seats by the way and the build record for my car does not mentioned heated wing mirrors as extras. In due course I intend to update the non heated mirror as per Estocks example. I may go as far as re-wiring both mirrors so they only heat when I want them to.

Possibly the heating in your mirrors has broken, or a previous owner broke the mirrors and substituted cheaper non-heating mirrors?BimBeema wrote:Humm - I'm not sure about this - mine has heated sports seats but I'm pretty sure it doesn't have heated mirrors - doesn't demist and is cold to the touch. Here's the BMW options/pricelist for 2002 Z3's - showing that heated seats and heated mirrors are a single option (ZSM):

Re: Heated door mirrors?
The list is for the US market, but I have the pricelist for 1999 Z3's in the NZ market (but not scanned) and it shows the same thing. Maybe the UK specced cars were different from the US and NZ, but I think it is unlikely.
And here's another link making reference to them being one option:

I'm not 100% sure about the heated nozzles - but I've certainly never seen it listed as a separate option on pricelists etc. Sure yours aren't heated? As I recall, the nozzle units look exactly the same but the heated ones have a fairly thick wire coming off it.

Hey Mich, hope NZ is treating you well - will be back there in few months - be great if there were still runs on from time to time - will pm you separately once I'm back.mich wrote:Are you sure about the heated spray nozzles, I have heated seats and mirrors but the spray nozzles look standard to me.Kiwi wrote:No.RB007 wrote:I was just wondering if all Z3 had heated door mirrors as standard?

Re: Heated door mirrors?
You are quite right Kiwi, the harness that goes to each washer nozzle consists of the actual washer feed tube + an electrical lead these are bound together as one. I really should have known better than to question you Z knowledge, look forward to catching up with you when you return to Gods own.Kiwi wrote: Hey Mich, hope NZ is treating you well - will be back there in few months - be great if there were still runs on from time to time - will pm you separately once I'm back.
