Broken into

Post by Dr. Wilson »

Arrived home from work tonight to find my pride and joy had been broken into via the back plastic window. Nothing taken as nothing in the car, but I have a totally destroyed rear window now, as well as ripped outer piping on one side where the little f*cker tried to climb in to find money for pies (by the looks of it).

Any ideas on call out or close by replacement window people. Or if the piping is dead, new roof and if so how much am I looking at roughly? Need to get it sorted asap as the thunder clouds are rolling in over South East London and she only protected by a tri-layer of bin liners at present.

...oh and if I catch the see you next tuesday I'm going to rip into him too. :x

Thanks for any and all advice. Im feeling violated and it will be well received.

Sorry to hear this, grrrrrrrrrrrrr the scrote who did this to your Zed wants them removing.

If you can't get anything sorted quickly a hood protector might help to tie you over.

Cheers Tim. I'll order one once I've spoken to a hood company tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

Hood Protector

Post by boblez »

Yes, i can endorse the hood protectors i have one and its great! The sea gulls around here generally fly over my Zed after they have had a curry and a few pints! S**t all over the damn place!

Had my Zed robbed by a couple of locals who thought it would be a good idea to race off in it, sadly they hadnt considered the fact that it needed fuel, they only got 1 mile away before it ran out!! Note to self keep the Zed low on fuel!

Cheers Gazza. I'll give them a call this morning.

Ordered one of those roof covers too as advised by Tim. Looks pretty good and worthwhile having anyway I reckon. The birds around here have a better aim than the car thieves it would seem.

Great to know there's a few of you out there that can endorse the quality. I'll just make sure I dont open her up for any al fresco driving until fully stretched in position!

They were very friendly on the phone and although they cant do the roof until Monday have said its cool for me to drive over there tomorrow and leave my Z with them over the weekend where it will be secure.

Just as a point of reference for anybody else looking for a new roof, I called Hot Hoods in Romford - http://www.hothoods.co.uk/z3_fitted.htm - and they also seemed pretty good - just not close enough or able to fit within the time I needed.

Then, The Car Hood Warehouse in Chessington - http://www.carhood.com/bmw.htm - where about a hundred quid more expensive with fitting than Soft Tops in Croydon.

Both could come out and fit at my home and charged a £25 additional fee however The Car Hood Warehouse could only do it off street (Hot Hoods didnt mind).

Will try and post some image of the finished results and report back soon.

Thanks for all advice :)

Sorry to hear of your plight :-(

Are you going for red or black?

I always wondered, being a fellow steel grey owner,........ thinking red might be nice for a change..................mmmmmmm?

My seats are imola and black so might look cool. 8-)

Going for black as I always liked the dark grey with black look - plus I have the black interior with msport grey finish. Not sure how red the red hood would be but if it matches your Imola seats then it could be a winner I guess. Def be a big statement!

I have an element of 'M-styling' on my car, If that's a good enough reason for the manufacturers to adorn a 320 with the M badge, then its certainly a good enough reason for me..

Don't do it Paula, I love the colour combo of your ///M, but I think a red roof, unless it was a perfect match to the Imola seats, would ruin the appearance. :(

Okay, no pics yet but picked her up and the roof looks great. No zippy out window. It's stitched in but when I asked Soft Tops they said its an easy enough job to replace if I ever needed to. They basically make the replacement tops there and fit them patterned to your old roof template.

She looks great with a new hat :)

thinking of taking mine there for replacement in a couple of weeks time.... Do you know how long they normally take?, and how long do you need to leave the roof shut, I willl get cold turkey keeping the roof closed if its not raining!!

Hood repairs

Post by NewZedMan »

For reference, I bought a new rear window for my Z3 from WilliamsBMW in Bolton. Cost me £155 inc VAT but not fitted.

Fitting is a 2-person job and can be right fiddly by all accounts. I'll get around to it one day. Meanwhile, Sellotape rules.

Best of luck

I contacted Soft Tops Croyden--car booked in for a new 'blue rinse hairdo' on Monday.. When I asked how much he said £495, I then mentioned that other people on here had been charged £450, and he said ......OK £450..

If they can do it for £450, they can do it for £400 - screw 'em down.
