AC alloys, will they, won't they?

Post by TitanTim »

Spotted these AC alloys on fleabay which are my dream wheels for the Zed :) I'm currently on 7.5x17 and 8.5x17

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/AC-Schnitzer-Genu ... 335746010f

I'm pretty certain though they won't fit due to the offset even though the seller is saying fits all BMW's with 5 stud fitment. Would anyone be kind enough to confirm please. Have e-mailed the seller over the weekend but no reply yet.

Cheers,

Tim.

Might be wrong but think the offset is wrong

Read it somwhere on a forum/site that Z's need a wheel with an offset between 35-42.

This site might help a little in future choices

Hi Titan tim,

Only reason I had a slight idea they might not fit is I've just spent months looking for some, so did the whole research/ will they fit before I part with my hard earned dollars thing.

Settled on some 17" type 3's in the end, and just got some rubber to wrap round them today, but think I''ll wait for the good weather to come back before I put them on !!

Happy hunting

Cheers Moneypit, yes I was wetting myself  when I saw them, first the euforia that some were up for sale then the deflation when I realised they probably wouldn't fit  Never mind there's always another day.

Tim, try this site for what can and can't fit

Offset Calculator

Its recommended that you don't use spacers more than 15mm if needed.

Not sure with yours but on the ///M (which has really wierd offsets) you can fit an offset which "pulls" the wheel out about 10mm which actually makes them flush with the arches.

So if you current wheels are 10mm in and you want them flush you can get away with 10mm

So assuming you currently have an offset of c39

Fronts would be 23mm out which sounds too much but rears would be 30mm which is way too much unless you "rolled" the arches out (which I'm guessing you don't want to).

Pity, one of the best alloys for the Z :bawl:

nb if your using that calculator make sure you have enough inner clearance for the brakes as well

Thanks Jon, appreciate the Link, I need to look at what offset my existing alloys are at, haven't a clue to be honest  don't know why I'm not a keen fan using spacers, not sure why. Just need to be careful if I went for alternative wheels they don't protrude out of the arches as it can easily spoil the looks. I was looking at AC alloys or Hartge for the 1 series but many are 8,5 for the fronts which I feel is too wide  The max BMW go with is 7.5 fronts 8.5 rears so looking at the BMW performance alloys for the 1er anyways. On the Zed I have I think they were the S spoke alloys (need to dig out original sales brochure  ) which are again 7.5 fronts and 8.5 rears which I feel suits the Zed nicely. I think the type 2 AC wheels like Three Lee Lakes has are more in keeping with offsets etc, just finding a decent set is the challenge.

acs alloys on ebay

Post by z3mcoupe999 »

hi just my 2p worth i have bought alloys of this guy before,he can make you up the offsets you require for a normal z ie et38 all round ,he me 2 8x17 and 2 9x17 et 38 and et 12 for my m. i would recommend going for 18s tho as the 17s look far to small when that have a tyre on and on the car with the 3 piece rim design.

I had the exact same wheels for a week with a deep rear dish and sold them on cos they just looked way too small because of the split rim design.

I now have genuine 19inch type 3 racing alloys with deep rear dish.

Cheers

As you know, wheel offsets suitable for the M are rare

the 17s which were 8 x 17 and 9 x 17 cost me 1k just for the wheels ,, but i would strongley recommend going 4 18s.

Dont get me wrong the look great but were 2 small should have bought 18s but hey you learn.

They are a nightmare to keep clean 2 with the polished lips 2 lol

i definelty agree,,, the offsets on the M cars are a nightmare to find wheels that fit due to rear wheels having such a low offset.

Your car looks fine.
Basically you have extended the wheel line by 40mm front and rear and compensated somewhat by narrowing the tyre width.
Personally I don't think I would want to run on 235 tyres on a 9.5inch width.

I like it when the tires it pulls on the rim. Rear there is also no problem. The front is extremely with the ET 13

Very much a Euro look with the stretched tyres.

I'm 50/50 on the look, if the car handles ok then no problem
