Any views on Waxoil for the Z ?

Post by johnwayne »

My local TVR specialist has sent me details of an offer on Waxoil treatment. Having had many years experiance with the marque I know of his work and more recently his racing expertise.
The offer is to steam clean the complete underbody-when fully dry waxoil is sprayed to all the underbody and areas prone to corrosion. The cost is £99 +vat. You can view this operation if you wish.

The website for anyone interested in his workshop is www.rtracing .co.uk and is situated close to Sytner BMW in Sheffield

Rust

Post by Mike Fishwick »

The visible underbody is not going to rust anyway, so long as the underseal id in good condition and not left with scratches etc in it.

The problem areas are inside the body sill covers (the bit you see) which get filled with grit and salt from the rear wheels, and the inner surfaceas of the rear wings - if you jack the car up and look upwards in front of the arch liner towards the filler cap you will see what I mean.

While the rear wings are worth doing, you can do these yourself for the cost of a tin of Waxoyl. The sills need to be pressure washed out, frmo one end to the other, after removing both the wheel arch liners on each side.

I washed mine out years ago, and sealed the gaps around the rear wings.

Spraying the underside with Waxoyl would mean that may tasks would be a sticky nightmare, and the underside would also be incredibly dirty - I predfer to keep mine clean on a regular basis by sponging it down.

If you have to drive in the winter UK salt nightmare it is a different thing - but remember that the visible underside is only the tip of the problem.
