Rattle behind seats

Post by lansha »

My 97 Z3 has developed a compination rattle/thunk coming from behind the seats. I have checked the Sub Woofer and the enclosure serounding it but I feel its coming from some place deeper. This only happens on rough roads. Thoughts?

The rattle behind my seats turned out to be slightly loose ( not worn ) rear shocks top mounts, there's lots of posts about them.
Unfortunately they where the last thing I checked after fuel tank mounts, brakes etc.

reading Dc's post that could also be a good possibilty. click on My Journal and there is advice on the shock top mount. very quick and easy job. Its another avenue to look down.

I also added reinforcement plates to stregthen the mounts, similar to the rouge engineering set up, 9 pounds for the aluminium plates.

Found it! I followed DC's suggestion and w4tkins suggestions plus the helpful links and found a loose top shock mount. You gents are alright. Enjoy a Belhaven on me, Thank you

Have a look here, if you look at the last pic of the OP you will see that the centre tube has detached from the rest of the mount.
