any idea what piece number 22 is? it appears to be in the middle of the gear knob, lol...

You are correct.

I fitted the same kit from Euro Car Parts.
It shows on the supplied picture on the packaging, it fits in front of hand brake gaitor.
Mine is different so it doesn't fit.
There must be 2 different gaitor set ups.
