2.2i M54 Engine Strut Brace

Post by Vic-Z3 »

Been done a zillion times before but this is my problem. :puzzle:

Like the idea, try and calm the tramlining a bit ......... who knows.
Seems like a small job I can do. Little DIY.

Which Front Strut Brace's Fits the 2002 - 2.2i - 24 Valve - M4 Engine - Z3 :?:

Also might be nice to have a list of Brace's to Engines in the
Knowledge Base, for the likes of me. New to the Z3.
Included could be Pic Link, Purchase Link .....etc:

1. M43 =
2. M44 =
3. M52 =
4. M54 = ?
5. S50 =
6. S52 =
7. S54 =

Got mine off ebay £80, more than happy with the quality and the way it has made a difference to the front end, if i can find the one i will post a link to it, but will probably be tomorrow. Any Strutt Brace for a six cylinder should do it, but try and get one with the grooves moulded for the top of the strutt and also the jump conector.

As you can see by mine there is a cut out at the rear and if you look at the top of the strut turret it has lumps.

Hi Bills ........................

In Neros pic on the right hand side of the engine, there is a black box
that sits above the engine cover :?: .
How is the clearance on this item with your Strut Brace :?:

Thanks

Nero ...................... I like that 8-)

I have had no problems at all with this Strutt Brace. Doesnt catch anywhere and just slots in place and tighten nuts all done in about 15 mins.

I have a Sparco fitted on our 2.2i
It obscures the OBD port mounted on the left hand (from driver's position) suspension turret.
There are more details and pics (to download) in THISthread

Hi Billz & g8jkaz.

I have been offered what looks to be the same as you guys have fitted....
£75 second hand, so I have bought it and will fit it as soon as the weather
breaks.
I am still a little concerned about the clearence between that small black box
thing on the right hand side of the engine though.
Oh well I guess I have bought it now I shall see.

What is that small black box anyhow :?:

Which box are you on about? If its the one on the side I think you describe mine clears it by miles. The only thing I had to move slightly was a black pipe (think it came from the coolant tank to the radiator) but it was literally a couple of mm.

Make sure you post some pics when it's fitted :thumb:

Titan is the fifteenth of Saturn's known satellites (18)
In Greek mythology the Titans were a family of giants, the children of Uranus and Gaia, who sought to rule the heavens but were overthrown and supplanted by the family of Zeus.
Discovered by Christiaan Huygens in 1655.

i.e, a very old fashioned colour and only makes number 15 on the chart.

Need to take it off I guess as that has some 2mm washers under it and the
threads are not visable above the shock mount studs.

Anybody with the six cylinder without that black box and in the market for a
very nice Strut Brace PM me ................. :(

Gutted......

Problem Sorted .................. :)

Took the offending part off on Friday.
Today I took it apart and fortunately ther was plenty of alloy on the
right and left strut securing plates that I could file out 5mm, therefore
letting me lift the joining bar upward so that it misses that unknown black
box. Put on some larger washers to cover the area of filing and bobs yer
uncle........

Well happy and it does make a difference having it on, as for the short time
it was off my car, it felt somehow loose on the front end. Now however all is
tighter and more responsive to steering input.

If you still havent got one fitted Why :?: :)
