Newbie help please !! ABS and ASC light on ? rear window

Post by series1glenn »

Hi everyone...recently aquired a 1998 2.8 z3 roadster..ive got a couple of issues with it that i hope someone can help with..

1. Do they have different versions ? (i.e sport/se etc ) reason i ask is mine just says Z3 on the v5 logbook but it seems to have pretty good spec (heated electric leather, m sport gearknob that lights up with lights ?)

2. My abs and asc light are on, i have done a few search's on here and google and get conflicting issues ! some say the sensors are common, and there is a lot of story's about the abs module on the pump ??
anyway, i took it to a local bmw specialist with all the bmw dis software and he ran a check and it came up with "RIGHT REAR INLET VALVE FAULT"
he had never heard of this fault and said it doesn't sound like a abs sensor :head: so could possibly be the module ??
i am going to change the sensor first as this is the cheapest option..just wondered if anyone had heard of this fault before or had issues with the module ??

3. My rear screen is knackered...has 2 splits in it and cant see a thing out of it...can anyone suggest the best place to get one for the best price ? or does anyone know who supplies and fits them in the manchester area ?

sorry it is a bit of a long post for my first post but i think i will be doing plenty more on here in the future..

thanks for any info

rear screen

Post by matney »

Hi there i recently got a new OEM rear screen from Motormec (based in Lowestoft) alot cheaper than main dealer who wanted £220. This is the zip in one, or you can get alot cheaper ones for as little as £60 on ebay, not sure of quality though.

For the window I looked on ebay and found a company close to me but its near London. Anyways I got a new window guaranteed for a year for £125 fitted so my point is check ebay for dealers trying to sell fitted windows and check out their feedback etc. You could be brave and try to fit one yourself but i think it involves a lot of patience and if you break it, no returns etc

Hi and welcome. There have recently been quite a few with this problem LINK.

The usual first step is to remove each sensor and clean it and if this doesn't cure the problem start replacing the sensors. IIRC the rear sensor has a longer connection so you can buy one rear sensor and then try it on each wheel in turn.

Measure the resistance across pins 1 and 2 on each sensor, a good sensor will read about 1000 Ohms.
