1800cc or 2.0L?

Post by Warrior »

Hoping to get to see a Z at a dealers this weekend which is jointly advertised as a 2.0L AND 1800cc!?

I've contacted the dealer who says..........

On the V5 it says 1800cc but on experian and hpi it comes up as a 2.0L I would imagine it is a 2.0L as the bhp for this vehicle is 150 which is the power of the 2.0L model,I imagine its probably just a mistake on the V5

Apart from it sounding a little dodgy what differences if any will I be able to determine from lifting the bonnet? Is the 2.0l a straight 6?

Depends on the year. the 2.0 is a 6 cylinder engine and was only offered for 2 years (1999 and 2000) on the very early face-lift cars. Thereafter the 6 cylinder models switched to a 2.2 and 3.0.

Easy check, is it a 4 or a 6? If a 4 then its an a 1800 or 1900

The 2.0l is a 6 cylinder - so quite easy to tell from the 1.8/1.9 4 cylinder model - I would have a close look at the paperwork though if the seller isnt sure what he's got sounds a little dodgy if the paperwork conflicts.

This is not as dodgy as it sounds and is an easy mistake to make. Personally I blame stupid insurance companies who fail to list vehicles with their actual engines and BHPs, though BMW did some interesting badging too!

If this is a UK market car, then it will not be an 1800cc engine.

In the UK we got an 1895cc 4-cylinder 16-valve 140BHP engine in the pre-facelift 1.9. Post-facelift we got an 1895cc* 4-cylinder 8-valve 118BHP engine and this is often referred to as the 1.8. There is also a post-facelift 2000cc 6-cylinder 150BHP engine.

It is easy to tell if a car is a facelift by looking at the back end - if the rear arches are flared above the line of the boot lid, then it is a facelift. It is then just a case of counting the cylinders.

Cheers R.

* I need to double check this, but it is a lot nearer 1900cc than 1800cc.

It's a 2001 X plate facelifted rear! No cc badge on boot.....

I'll ask how many cylinders before travelling, thanks...

If you have a picture of the ad :rtm: - generally the 1.9l will have a single oval shaped exhaust while the 2.0l will have twin tail pipes
