Retrofit ///M Boot Lid Trim - Time to fit: 10 mins

This is a 10 minute mod and something I've been hankering after doing for a while. The Z3Ms got a carpet lining to the boot lid that the other models in the Z3 range did not. Internally the bootlid of the Z3M is the same as that of the pre-facelift models, so it is possible to retrofit the carpet panel.

After

The parts required are the carpet panel itself, 4 locking clips and 4 locking inserts. For part numbers, see below. For more information visit this page (bmwfans.info).

The parts

Fitting is straightforward. Push locking inserts into the bottom end of the two uppermost vertical slots and the outside end of each of the two innermost horizontal(ish) slots. You can see from the after picture approximately where these are. The locking clips then push through the pre-cut holes in the trim panel into the inserts. The clips must be aligned with the direction of the slot beneath and ratchet into position. If not aligned they don't grip and in fact you release them by turning them like a screw.

B51.49.2.492.646 TRIM PANEL 1@ 51.07 51.07
B51.71.1.916.199 NUT 4@ 0.17 0.68
B51.16.1.932.255 LOCK 4@ 0.14 0.56
                             Sub-total 52.31
                             VAT 10.46
                             TOTAL £62.77
Contrary to what has been said in at least one other thread on here, the clips and locks can be ordered individually rather than in bags of 10. I had to wait two weeks for the trim panel to come from Germany, but as I got it through my local dealer, it didn't cost me any postage.

I'm very pleased with the result and think it finished the car off nicely.

Cheers R.

That looks great Robert.

I've looked at the one from the USA with pockets in but its a bit pricey when duty and postage has been added.

I may now go down this road as it looks a nice finish to the boot. Which dealer did you order it from?

Looks good Robert and finishes the boot off nicely, shame you can't do the same for the facelift :head: hence why I went for the storage pockets from Roadster Solutions :| Never liked the bare boot lid, just looks unfinished :(

It was from Blue Bell just down the road from me. The computer only showed one in Germany when I ordered, so it may take longer to get one if it has to come from where they are made.

They should keep spares available for 10 years after the end of production. The 10 years are nearly up, so get your order in quick.

Facelift bootlids are different

2.2 is a facelift, so sadly it will not fit.

It's made from thin plywood covered in automotive carpet. The clips are the BMW 1/4 turn clips mainly as used in the footwell trim. I have got the template I made for this somewhere.

Hi Brian Must have missed your reply re the boot lid material. Where do you buy the fabric? and I would like a copy of the pattern of the actual trim if you can find it
