This is a 10 minute mod and something I've been hankering after doing for a while. The Z3Ms got a carpet lining to the boot lid that the other models in the Z3 range did not. Internally the bootlid of the Z3M is the same as that of the pre-facelift models, so it is possible to retrofit the carpet panel.

The parts required are the carpet panel itself, 4 locking clips and 4 locking inserts. For part numbers, see below. For more information visit this page (bmwfans.info).
The parts
Fitting is straightforward. Push locking inserts into the bottom end of the two uppermost vertical slots and the outside end of each of the two innermost horizontal(ish) slots. You can see from the after picture approximately where these are. The locking clips then push through the pre-cut holes in the trim panel into the inserts. The clips must be aligned with the direction of the slot beneath and ratchet into position. If not aligned they don't grip and in fact you release them by turning them like a screw.
