Alloy wheels?
Alloy wheels?
I'm thinking of upgrading my alloy wheels for my 1.9 1998 zed. Can I put any BMW alloys on or are there only particular types that will fit?
Pleased this topic came up actually, i've got 17"s on my thristy girl at the moment, they are the wheels the car came with (factory), and although nice i was thinking of putting something a little a bigger on i.e. 18"s. as i've stated before, i'm not the most car savy when it comes to stuff like this, before the Zed i never owned anything that i ever though about changing the wheels on before so genuinely don't know much about this stuff - would there be any issues with doing this? She's an 02 2.2.

Someone might correct me soon but you want between about 30 and 40 ET (offset) - that keeps the wheels within the wheel arch
then you need them to be 120x5 pcd - that means the nuts go through the wheels and onto the car!
then you need to make sure they have the right tyre sizes - to keep the rolling diameter the same, to prevent it affecting the speedo (not exactly sure how to work that one out!
basically (as already said) anything from a 3 series or Z3 (non ///M) or 1 series will fit fine.
Good luck, there are so many to choose from

I bought my Breyton's from BM Auto Sport who were recommended on here and other forums... Have a look through the link below and it takes you to his collection of wheels for E36/46/90/Z3/Z4 which all use the same fitment.
You can then get an idea of styles and also the dimensions you are after.

If you really get stuck give Mark a ring, he was really helpful when I was looking.
Hope that helps, Gary.

Don't believe you can fit M3 wheels on the Z. Offset would be incorrect. 2 wheels would fit but the rear M3 wheels would stick out a bitSheri3663 wrote:Can I fit 3 series 18" M wheels?
I could be wrong, this is how it was on my E46 330, M3 wheels wouldn't fit, but the Z does have more space on the rear end.

someone mentioned ///M wheels earlier......
They do fit, a matter of opinion (here comes some controversy) as to whether the rears stick out too much to be legal. However physically with the rear arches rolled they do fit and look, in my opinion, awesome.

I appreciate that, but I am on 17s on standard suspension and that arch gap looks massive in comparison.Jonttt wrote:It will be running standard suspension. One of the "side effects" of fitting 18 inch wheels and with lower profile tyres than stock is that it exaggerates the wheel arch gap (even though its the same as before). Its common to also lower the car 20-30mm as well
