tinting z3 rear screen

Post by stevesace »

has anyone tinted their rear screen? i was going to use some good quality tint film but i've been told the glue can rot the plastic window.. might still give it ago as its got a none gen rear screen in anyway, and would rather put the genuine one back in 8-)
not sure whether the folding of it would cause problems too?

I have seen green tinted rear screens on Zeds, i.e. the plastic itself is tinted. I'm really not sure how well film would hold up with creasing etc

I think the film would delaminate with folding.

A better option might be getting some tinted plastic put in as a replacement for the clear one.

Why tint? It's dark enough inside without it :!:

Why not try it with the film and see how it goes. Surely wouldn't cost much and it may hide the fold mark.

I work in the window film industry. Window film will not work on a Z3 rear screen.

Firstly it won't adhere very well to the plastic as the adhesive is designed to adhere to glass.

Secondly if you could get it to stick the bend in the screen when putting the roof down will detirorate the film very quickly forcing the film to crack and peel and just look plan awful in no time.

Thirdly the film would have to be heat shrunk to take up any curvature in the rear screen and that can not be done with a plastic screen.

Any questions about window tinting in general please PM me.
