Qu: Hard Top transportation
Hi guys
Looking to one day pick up a Hardtop but our Z doesn't have the fitting kit. Now if the right one comes along I obviously can't guarantee that a fitting kit will come with it.
Question is, if that is the case, how do i go about getting it back home? Is there a way to temporarily fix it in place, obviously i don't want the thing to fly off and kill somebody
If not, what can i fit the roof in? Mini van, 3 series Tourer etc.
Cheers

Well you definitely shouldn't carry it far on a Zed without the fitting kit
As for carrying it in something else, the only difficulty is man-handling it.
They are not particularly heavy but they are awkwardly shaped, and easily scratched or damaged.
If it comes in an OEM bag, that has a large carry handle and vinyl protection to the corners.
If it doesn't, I'd use blankets/pillows/old duvet/sleeping bag etc to pack it during transportation.
One last thought, depending in geography and practicality, you may be able to persuade ANOther Z owner to get it for you.

Before I decided to go and pick mine up, I got some quotes using www.uship.com - was around £50 for a fair length of the country.
As long as the person selling it can protect it a bit, might be worth a look.

Sounds like a no brainer really.....Mind you always handy to see it in the flesh first!?VikingSven wrote:Before I decided to go and pick mine up, I got some quotes using www.uship.com - was around £50 for a fair length of the country.

Where so the large metal "spikes" go as the fittng kit has the holes for these to fit into (without damaging the car and more importantly stopping it completely tipping over the front of the car in very heavy breaking / crash )
Can anyone give me dimensions and approx weight of the hardtop so I can work out a quote on uship. CheersVikingSven wrote:Before I decided to go and pick mine up, I got some quotes using www.uship.com - was around £50 for a fair length of the country.
