Z3 wheels scuffed...NOT happy!

Post by littlejoe »

I made the BIG mistake of lending my daughter who has two kids, the VTS car which my partner uses for a couple of weeks while she got her new car sorted out and her private plate registered on that vehicle and let my partner drive my Z3 which she kindly kerbed and badly scuffed the nearside wheels. :bawl:

The scuffs are quite bad and while it may be possible to get them re-painted, I reckon it might be better to buy a couple of new ones.

Anyone any idea where I can get a pair of the rims like the ones in the pic below and what do trhey cost or, failing that, has anyone ever had their wheels repainted after being scuffed and did it look ok and how much does it cost?

Cheers.

I take it the wheels are these

Might be worth ringing Alloy Wheels Direct and ask if they would sell them seperately.

A couple of comments:
I think ZedCarer has a set of wheels for sale - send him a PM
Repainting is not (in my experience) very effective however -
You could get them refurbished by eg The Wheel Specialist
Quite few members have used this franchise and been very pleased

Any good wheel refurber will be able to fill the scuffs and repaint the wheels... usualy costs around £60 per wheel....

Thanks for the reply Tim.

I should have said, they are 17 inch wheels (7 1/2J 17 H2). There is a number on them: 1182 732.
There's also 15 41 GDW written on the wheels if this helps!

Thanks for the replies guys..
I'll look into wheel refurb specialists in my area first and if everything is fine with the wheels and the price is right I'll probably just get them done that way and if not, I'll need to source a pair of new ones.

Cheers..

I acquired a set of wheels for my Zed from a (former) Forum member a couple of years ago. They were not in great condition, but for the cost (just the diesel for the 120 mile round trip to collect them) I was very happy. I searched locally and found a company called The Wheel Clinic who refurbed them.

Here's the link to the thread, which includes some before and after pictures;

Two years on, they still look great. I understand that from where you are based, The Wheel Clinic is not an option, but there have been several threads recommending The Wheel Specialist, including Titan, that are more local to you.

There are mobile wheel refinishers, who come to your home and can sand and fill damage, which can look great when done properly, but the durability cannot be as good as a properly stripped and powder coated wheel.

I would imagine that the cost of new rims from BMW would be prohibitively expensive. I have found the wheels on the real OEM website;

Good luck!!!

I agree with Mouldy as I obtained a set of wheels from a former forum member a couple of years ago and they had some kerb damage on two wheels but I recently had them cleaned, repaired and powdercoated. I used a small local firm that charged £130 for all four wheels. It's the left hand car in the photograph from today at Newby:

Very pleased with them.

Thanks for the reply.
Those wheels are exactly the same as mine and looks like they did an excellent job, especially at that price.
I live in East Yorks so it's not too far to drive to your neck of the woods...maybe if you could kindly let me know the firm that did the job, it might be viable for me to get them done there!

Joe,

Wheelemin on English Street in Hull did my Alpina's and made a cracking job, £180 all in for 4x17".

I think Yorkvik engineering in york do them as well and have seen a few recommends for them.

Probably too far from you, but worth a mention especially if anyone is reading this closer to the south - Lepsons done my 17" original split rims, that came back like new! They were very corroded and a bit kerb scuffed, but never been touched before in the 10 year life of the car. I do keep them very clean (remove each wheel and clean inside - is that sad?)

Sounds good to me Jas! I'll give them a call this week and see what happens! Nice and near too so shouldn't present much of a problem!

I'll PM you the details.

IIRC the correct price for mine should have been £140 as the tyres had been removed and new ones were being put on by the tyre fitter. I think it was around £30 to have the tyres removed and replaced.

I took my wheels in on a Friday and picked them up the following Thursday as this fitted in with when they were firing the oven. That's probably the downside of powdercoating as I don't think that it can be done in one day. If that's a problem I've got my other wheels in the garage complete with almost new Goodyear F1's that you're welcome to borrow.
