EML, DSC and brake and Engine Light

Post by Ferdinand »

CAR: Z3 3.0iA Km: 43.000 Service OK
Airfilter: KN in original airbox

As said above the EML, DSC and Brake Warning Light comes om from time to time - and sometimes even the orange Engine Light - with rough idle and car not able to pull -sounds like en 3/4 cylinder....

I was thinking about cleaning the MAF and giving it a injector cleaner - thought that it might be oilfumes from KN-filter perhaps - but otherwise I have no idea of what else to do??

Any suggestions will be very helpfull and appreciated!

Anyone have any experience with a BMW E61 535d? or the current model?
I need a good daily runabout with decent power/economy... :D

My 2.8 had a similar problem caused by a mechanical jam in the throttle body. I had the benefit of being able to read the error codes though.

I would say you need the error codes reading before going off on a wild goose chase.

If you un-plug the MAF, and if it improves the running, then it could well be the MAF (that reminds me I must fix my MAF) - anyway, if it does improve it, before you buy another MAF, have a go at cleaning it yourself.
The last time I did, I took it out the housing (note; there are anti tamper screws - which can be overcome with a pair of pliers) I squirted some electrical cleaner in and gently blew it try with some air. The worst thing you can do is break it - but as it is broken, there is nothing to lose.
