You have £1000 to spend...
On a standard 98 1.9 Z3 with 20k on the clock, original cont pilot 15" tyres on it.

18's will fit with the right offset not sure what the correct one is , think its et43. the general feeling on here is 18's are the ideal size.
But roll bars do give a Z3 a more complete sports car look. I paid £300 for mine inc all the panels and brackets you need. Well worth it in my opinion.

Please help. The money will go to a good cause. email me for the link to my fundraising page.
Depends how much time / patience you have to search for a bargain.
eg I sourced a rare set of AC Schnitzer Type II split rims with good branded tyres and refurbed for £700 ish (£4k+ new) but took me 12 months and imported from Germany.
Or you could by a nice new set of wheels and tyres for £700ish
As suggested above you could add the roll hoops for £350ish 2nd hand with patience or £1k ish if you buy new parts.
I guess from above my top choice would be wheels first and roll hoops second.
Re wheel offset depends on which Z3 you have (narrow bodied, wide bodied, ///M). Search on here as lots threads on this but in principle you need 3 series wheels and can adjust with spacers (must be 5 holes and PCD 120)
£1k is a good budget so take your time and do some research (eg post a thread asking people for their favourite wheels etc... for inspiration )

you would need far more than £1k to upgrade to an M....Jonttt wrote:What do you do if you have £1k to spend on a 2.8, trade in for an ///M Its not all about power with these carsjontymo wrote:px and get a 2.8!
my first choice would be a nice set of wheels too.. second spend it on lowering springs... at 20k your shocks should be ok.
if any more left then go for sport or M seats... cant go wrong

1998 Atlanta Blue 2.8
New/refurbed 18" alloys (not personally fussed about suspension drop)
De-tango headlights, side lights etc
Sport/M seats if you can get hold of set. Much nicer and really hold you in when cornering. Rare as hens teeth though.
New headunit to replace the poor quality OEM one. The sound difference even with my £90 Sony unit is amazing.

Or with the fuel prices as they are just keep it in the bank and spend it on fuel...
seriously though you should maybe look into spending the first part of your money on maintance, service or anything that needs doing to it to keep it in tip top condition....
But if all ok then what the hell splash on a set of rims!!

For clarity the sport seats are not the same as the ///M seats.GazHyde wrote: Sport/M seats if you can get hold of set. Much nicer and really hold you in when cornering. Rare as hens teeth though.
Its the ///M seats that are the most sought after.
They do look very similar to you have to know what to look out for (there is a thread with pics if you search )
mmmmmm come to think of it there are loads of cool mods you can do and I forgot about detangoing
ooh sorry sir, but it is for you!jontymo wrote:Jonttt wrote:What do you do if you have £1k to spend on a 2.8, trade in for an ///M Its not all about power with these carsjontymo wrote:px and get a 2.8!

Hi Chaps, thanks for your views. It's interesting to get a good range of suggestions. I'm surprised that brightening up the interior hasn't been suggested more.
The car is mint so I have a really good basis to work with. The car as I have said is original so the tyres although full of tread are cracking, so dangerous. So wheels are top of the shoping list. depending on how they look on the car I guess will dictate if I look at lowering it. If not, I'm tempted to go with new head unit / speakers.

Trade it in for a straight 6. You get masses of torque with the 3 litre and an over-run to die for.Piemuncher wrote:On a standard 98 1.9 Z3 with 20k on the clock, original cont pilot 15" tyres on it.

You could not be further from the truth. I get my power kicks from other sources the Z3 is the least powerful car I drive !jontymo wrote:ooh sorry sir, but it is for youJonttt wrote:What do you do if you have £1k to spend on a 2.8, trade in for an ///M Its not all about power with these carsjontymo wrote:px and get a 2.8!

You'd have to be mad to spend £1000 new on roll hoops! I would like a set on mine but can't even condone spending £350ish on a second hand set!Jonttt wrote:Depends how much time / patience you have to search for a bargain.

But if I was spending a grand! It would be a nice set of wheels, lowering springs and a SS exhaust!
A Grand would be just the start
Nice set of wheels will be any where from £550 to what ever Ours cost 1200 ish
lowering springs around 150 to 300 depending on make.
A change of leather interior any where from 200 to 750
but personally if you go for wheels pay the extra for the best tyres as you can change the whole of the handeling of the z.
Just use this as the first grand you will spend the next will follow later

///M wing Mirrors (I know a man who has a set!)
and definitely wheels, I'm on my 4th different style on my Zed and love the completely different look a set can make.
or, if I had a Zed 3 Roadster I would get a hard top, wheels and lower it.
Roll hoops do look cool too

I'd go for suspension and wheels. Look for a good set of springs and shocks, it will transform the cars handling and tidy up the look - the best mod I have done yet
Then next on the list would be stereo (upgrade front components/ headunit and possibly small subwoofer) and as mentioned about M mirrors will modernise the car
