Mileage
Damn, I have just missed getting into the impressive stats. My July 01 1.9 Sport has just turned 16,495 miles. I picked it up exactly 2 years ago with 5085 on the clock!
This thread fills me with joy at the prospect of at least another 100k probably without any problems, which is why I bought it, as a keeper. I changed everything on it over the last year as it is a simple joy to work on. The engine should be bombproof as it is the last of the M43TU units which went back to chain cam drive and twin balancers. Smooth and flexible!
Interesting the comments that they are not run in for ages yet. Weeks after I got it I went around the Pyrenees and Alps for 2600 miles and the difference after that was very noticeable. Not thrashing it, but maybe loads of 20+ mile descents, with lots of overrun, might be responsible?
How long does it take before the gearchange loosens up? I've often wondered why the 'ultimate driving machines' have such ponderous gearboxes?
