drivers side heated mirror staying hot

doesnt seem to be turning off felt it yesterday & it was HOT after driving for about half an hour
is this normal :cry:

I have a 97 1 9 which I fitted M mirrors to and they stay hot all the time was told my a forum member this is normal
E30 318 1988 Gone
E36 320 1992 Gone

E36 328 1995 write off

E39 525d M Sport 2003 Current
E37 Z3 M44B1.9 1997 Current

M tec mirrors are more round very different to standard mirrors
E30 318 1988 Gone
E36 320 1992 Gone

E36 328 1995 write off

wish I could post pics. I have squary :shock: round mirrors they are about the best wing mirrors i've had.. great views and hot too :)

If you look in stock exchange there are some M-tec mirrors for sale you will see the difference 8 up from the bottom

Towards the end of the thread that I have linked to,it is mentioned by 'Ardchyle' that there is a thermal switch in circuit.

I havent got heated mirrors, but looking at the wiring diagram, there is a thermal switch so presumably these should only be on in cold weather,

Thanks for the info everyone, it gets really hot, the heating element on the other mirror (passenger side) doesn't seem to work. Is it easy to get the glass off? I may disconnect the heating element before something nasty happens :shock:

Bill,

Nothing to worry about, they are on all the time. I have had both normal mirrors and ///M Mirrors and both stay on all the time. I had previously looked in to this and the circuit digaram states there is a thermal switch but I cannot find one anywhere.

sorry to be a pain chaps,

Does the mirror just pop off. it gets really hot & i;m going to be driving in 45 degree heat in a couple of weeks. I think I'll try to disconnect it. I can always reconnect it at a later date.
