spare wheel
Quick question ? how many Z owners have got rid of the horrible spare wheel that hangs under the rear bumper and carry a can of tyre weld instead

Re: spare wheel
Just the other day I had a puncture in the side wall of the tyre, I am glad that I had the space saver, got me out af a right pickle. I would not trade for a can of tyre weld.si-forks wrote:Quick question ? how many Z owners have got rid of the horrible spare wheel that hangs under the rear bumper and carry a can of tyre weld instead
I have now put a piece of rope in the boot to tie down the boot lid as I do not want to put the punctured wheel in the car and the boot is not quite large enough to take the wheel.

Yes, I had a debate with myself concerning the Tyre vs Spray Can dilema and came to conclusion that the tyre would do more to get me out of trouble than the 'goo', to that end I bought a Tyre Bag off E-Bay (stored in with the spare wheeel) and a couple of Elasticated Straps in case there is a passenger involved and the boot lid has to be tied down.
Thank heavens I haven't had to use them yet.......Gulp! is that tempting fate?

Don't think breakdown services care...if you had the spare and it was flat or damaged and you didn't know it wouldn't, I suspect, be a decision factor whether you were recovered or not...same for not having a spare!
I'm not a fan of 'the goo' as well and have also invested in a bag for my space saver wheel which I got off flea bay...does it limit the boot space? Yes hence the luggage rack for trips longer than a day.
Also have some elastic 'ties' for securing damaged wheel in boot to avoid the missus becoming a makeshift wheel carrier...

We carry tyre weld on our trail bikes and I have to say in 75% of the cases it doesn't work - and that's with a knobbly tyre that only needs 15psi.
Obviously we can take a spare tube and change that but I would say leave your space saver in place if it's okay and legal. Glad you brought it up so I will have a look at mine this weekend.

Get The Bloody Roof Down!!
Mine is gone too, all in the name of weight reduction...
I'll take my chanses with the tire punctures. After all, there's always ways to get help if something happens. And yes it will probably cost a bit but on the other hand, if any of us would be very concerned about the cost of our motoring, we would be driving 90's civics and vauxhals.
