Morse code noise at high speed?

Post by Warrior »

I tickled the gas tonight on a nice piece of dual carriageway.

Nothing lairy, more acceleration than top end and just over 3000 revs and 70ish mph heard a sound like that which ET makes? 3 notes eeee, orrrrr, eeee, aaaaaa.....

My first reaction was that it was a squeaky seat so I wound her up again and at the same sort of revs and speed reproduced the same noise.

Any ideas?

I can't say, in all my years of motoring (and running old heaps that need lots of fixing) I've ever heard a car make an ET noise... You sure you didn't run over ET and he's still stuck in the wheel arch?

Possibly an air leak or Pinking ?

I would try pulling down the hood by the centre hand hold when driving at speed, to see if the noise goes away. If it does, then tighten up the hood catches with an allen key.

I get this, or something like it, and I suspect it's air being forced past a flap in the ventilation system - heater, a/c or suchlike. It's a high frequency stuttering 'beep' with a somewhat reedy quality. Nothing to worry about as it happens only if I accidentally, and very briefly, exceed a certain speed... :colourful:

I'll put the sensible answer in this thread...

Could be the heater valve. They can resonate at certain engine revs, Same can be said of quite a few things though.

Was there a blue flashing light in the rear view mirror?

This sounds favourite so at least I won't see a rear wheel overtake me next time...

I have exactly the same problem on mine ..
The quickest solution is use the windscreen washer and on the downstroke
the noise completly disapears as the water goes between the lower plastic
window cowling and the windscreen acting as a damper.
I am yet to cure it completly but am trying several diferent permanent
solutions, such as sticking felt to the back of the surround, which helped but
only to change the pitch. Am now going to try some black silicon applied to the leading edge.
Will let you know the outcome....................

Meanwhile that noise is bleeping annoying ....
