Central locking motor
Central locking motor
Hi all, need some advice regarding the central locking to drivers door.
Had noticed door was not locking / unlocking every time on the fob and had the car in to my local independent, who said the drivers door central locking motor needed replacing. He quoted me £174.30 inc. to replace it, but I was wondering if anyone on here has replaced one. If so how difficult was it, not including the door card removal as I have done this a few times and am ok with it. Also how much are they and where would I get one.
I am just considering doing this job myself if it is not too difficult and it saves me enough money to warrant not asking my independent to do it.
Any comments and opinions would be welcome. Thanks.
P.s. don't bother telling me to do a search on here, as I have tried and got nowhere

lock actuator
Hi, I did mine yesterday, got one off an e36 from my local breakers, grand total £4. Not too difficult, just a bit fiddly.

Heeeelp!! have followed link for doing this job, unfortunately there is a difference between passenger door and drivers, being the actual key lock cylinder which has a rod attached which goes into the lock assembly.
I cannot disengage this from the lock assembly, thus I am unable to remove assembly from door. Can anyone help? I need to know how to do this I am thinking the handle etc has to come off but I haven't got a clue. I have got this far and dont want to put it all back and ask the independant to do it.
Any idea anyone?

Is anyone able to help with the problem I have trying to sort the drivers door central locking
Thanks
I must just say a big thank you to Stu for taking the time and effort to post such a helpful article re the replacement of the central locking actuator.
This post has saved me £168.00 and without it I would never have attempted the job.
Albeit there was a difference between the drivers side and the passenger side which I did not realise at first, being another rod linked to the key cylinder which had to be released from the assembly before removal from the car.
This I discovered was done by unclipping a small white plastic clip from the rod and then pulling free from the assembly. I am sure Stu would explain that far more eloquently than moi but unfortunately he did the passenger side and not the drivers.
Not the easiest of jobs I have done on the Zed but were it not for Stu's article
I would have found it impossible.
Just another instance of how good this site is and how helpful the guy's on it are.
I can now enjoy the feeling of immense satisfaction that being able to do this job myself has brought, not to mention the saving to the old pocket.
