Clutch on Z3 - short or long?

Post by mooney »

Is the travel on your clutch pedal short or long on your Z3?

It's not how long it is, it's what you do with it..............apparently!

Sorry, back to the clutch, the bite point on my clutch is quite near the top so I only need to depress the clutch halfway at the most to change gear. I guess that means short? The travel to the floor is obviouly long, and unnecessary.

The travel on mine is long to the floor with biting point at top.

I didn't know if this was normal as when driving my mini, the clutch has hardly any travel at all

The gear change on my 2.8 is definitely smoother if I press the pedal almost to the floor. The Getrag gearbox on the 4-cylinders and 2.0/2.2 sixes is supposedly smoother than with the stronger ZF boxes fitted to the 2.8/3.0 and Z3M sixes.

Although the change on my 2.8 is smooth, it is a "deliberate" change, not to be hurried, unlike the "knife-through-butter" rifle bolt change on my wife's MX-5.

More satisfying in a way, though, getting it just right!

Recently had a new clutch and dual mass flywheel fitted to our 97 2.8,don't ask how much
It has transformed the whole car making it an absolute pleasure to drive.
