Want to fit some mud flaps
Want to fit some mud flaps
Hi all,
I would like to fit some mud flaps to the Zed I know some will think them naff etc etc but I'm not that bothered how they look so long as they do the job of protecting the car from flying stones, our local Council is on a mission in covering all my local roads in chippings, already complained to them as the other day the A34 near to me was a deep sea of chippings it was ridiculous
Called my dealer who says the flaps aren't available anymore and had a look on Roadster Solutions and they only have OEM fronts in stock now but will cost a fortune in postage and import duty
Anyways have come across these for the Z3 and supposidly moulded to fit etc,
http://www.extremeautoaccessories.co.uk ... ction=1392
Anyone got any thoughts or pointers to a decent aftermarket set of flaps.
I've just bought some OEM fronts for the 1 series unfortunately BMW don't do the rears with M Sport bumpers
Cheers,
Tim.

Re: Want to fit some mud flaps
Don't waste your money - I ordered a pair last year and they sent generic E36 mudflaps - the packet listed all the applicable models with no mention of the Z3. I just emailed them, returned the mudflaps and got a full refund without any argument.TitanTim wrote:Hi all,

They may have changed but the website doesn't appear to have changed at all since last year.

Brilliant cheers for that I think thats the problem being aftermarket etc theyre just a rough generic fit, I'm kinda thinking of just going for OEM fronts only unless I can find a decent aftermarket set,Zed Carer wrote:Don't waste your money - I ordered a pair last year and they sent generic E36 mudflaps - the packet listed all the applicable models with no mention of the Z3. You can fit some mudflaps to your car, but they won't protect it from the stones thrown up by other passing cars. However slowly and carefully I drive down a road that's been freshly top dressed, there's always some tw*t hammering along in the opposite direction, peppering my car with loose chippings.
Why don't you try this?

I've seen it advertised but not fitted, but it should help to keep your car pristine.

Hi. mudflaps will never be a thing of beauty but i too was concerned about stone chips on my rear arches. consequently I bought a pair of universal mudflaps from amazon at a cost of £14.99 and fitted them to the front after slicing them down to the bare minimum with a stanley knife. They actually fit very well dont look too obtrusive and certainly give the required protection.
Cheers Mouldy, your perfectly right, I was in the 1er and not the Zed when I hit a newly laid surface, 30mph speed limit but signs out to slow to 20 due to the chippings and the twats where doing 40 and 50 as it was 7am, van drivers and lorry drivers arent going to slow down, I tend to slow down to less than 10mph but doing that idiots then want too overtakeMouldy wrote:You can fit some mudflaps to your car, but they won't protect it from the stones thrown up by other passing cars. I had the clear bra fitted to my MINI Cooper S a few years back but was done by Rhino Protect, its good but to do the Zed would probably cost around 4 to 500 The Zeds front sills underneath are very prone to chipping and then can rust so some front flaps will definitely help

I've bitten the bullet and ordered a front set from Roadster Solutions, will leave the rears unless I ever come across some OEM ones, but will do the job for the fronts

Tim,D-reame from another thread a while back wrote:Here you go. These were purchased by the previous owner from BMW. The invoice quotes part numbers as follows:
B82.16.9.405.191 MUDFLAPS FRT £24.14 pair
B82.16.9.405.192 MUDFLAPS REAR £2.50 pair
They were purchased on 04/11/2010.
The above part number for the mudflaps are still showing active on coopers, I have taken a punt on them so will let you know if they are right.
Cheers
Brian
Thanks Brian please let me know how you get on. I've ordered the fronts anyways now from Roadster Solutions but still interested in the rears. I was led to believe the rears won't fit facelifted Zeds but I have seem them fitted with them. My dealer said they had been taken the flaps off the system and when I checked BMMiniparts they couldn't give me a quote as not stocked anymore.
Cheers,
Tim.
P.S. The rears from Coopers look a tad pricey

Always wondered abut those, what airflow are they deflecting? Within about 1 day of getting my zed broke one of them off on the bl**dy speed humps at work!TitanTim wrote:You mean the small ones under the front bumper? theyre just airflow deflectorsBill- wrote:underneath like?

Edit: oops should have read the post properly, thought you meant the ones further back under the doors.

I think its something to do with air turbulance and directing it around the front wheels I have them on the 1 Series but also infront of the rear wheels, I dont think its anything to do with protecting the car from mud etc.wonderloaf wrote:Always wondered abut those, what airflow are they deflecting? I have an element of 'M-styling' on my car, If that's a good enough reason for the manufacturers to adorn a 320 with the M badge, then its certainly a good enough reason for me..
haha I'm so betwixed, I keep looking at Z3Ms but I'm going to bide my time as prices are getting so low for them so I might even keep the Zed and get another If a nice low mileage S54 comes along then even bettermyredzed wrote:I thought you were looking at changing yours though Tim?!TitanTim wrote:...worth it if your planning on keeping the Zed.
I just don't think I can part with my current Zed, spend alot of time getting it to how I like it.
