new thermostat

Post by easisatman »

Hi All
Reading the threads here about heater not getting hot I changed the thermostat on the wifes 1997 1.9 z3. not a hard job,I just took the radiator cowling off 2X screws top cover 4x screws the fan blade off 4x bolts undid the 2 hoses from the thermostat and removed the thermostat 4 X bolts yes as said the 2 plastic lugs had broken off holding the metal thermostat in place, anyway put it all back together and now gets up to temp quickly but the heater still does not get hot.
The 2 hoses going to the heater are hot so the water is getting there also the heater valve works ok so I can only think its the heater matrix which has a blockage is this a common problem?

thanks

Could be the water pump, where the impellor is slipping on the shaft, and not providing enough flow through the normal resistance of the heater matrix.

I have an element of 'M-styling' on my car, If that's a good enough reason for the manufacturers to adorn a 320 with the M badge, then its certainly a good enough reason for me..

Couldbe the system needs bleeding? First place I'd look if the heater was working OK before you changed the thermostat?

GSF is a good source of consumables, like a thermostat. BMW tend to do these at reasonable prices too.

yes its a possible but the flow and return hoses to the heater matrix are very hot!! so i think the matrix must be partly blocked
