Fuel Consumption

Post by LP » Wed 06 Oct, 2004 13:31

Afternoon all, just amazed myself by getting nearly 300 miles out of a tank and recording an average of 33.9 mpg on a run back from Amsterdam to Köln yesterday - didnt think I would ever see that on my 2.8Z !

I'm beginning to wonder if there's something wrong with my 3.0i.

Average (over a long time) is 24.0 mpg, with 70% urban/30% mway.

Maybe I`m just a  behind the wheel....

That's about the same as I used to in the Silver BabyZee and PN gets that in hers - so I wouldn't knock yourself out over it :D

Hello

I used to get 300 miles regularly out of my 2.2 (manily Motorway) think the cruise helps :) stops you zooming around following the car in front rather than watching your speed. I nursed (oooh err) over 35 sometimes.......

ooops maybe I'm a wus :shake:

I work away from home during the week and do 340 miles between a Monday morning and Friday afternoon. I'm running on fumes when I get home, but they are Monday's fumes!

I don't trust the computer enough to go down to single figure range, but I have a friend who does that in his 535. I will refill when the range drops to around 30 miles, so 370 miles may be possible, but I don't want to try it!!

Point taken garyw - I apologise unreservedly, but I did have my missus in the car! and she is an MGF driver! I must admit that the 33.9 was primarily through Holland ( they are a bit tighter on speeding) - as soon as i crossed in to Germany, I found it a bit more difficult to keep below 110! - the MPG did drop accordingly !

I ran mine for almost 20 miles in Austria (forced to due to lack of Garages and me not noticing due to the scenery) with the Miles remaining showing "- -"

the computer goes on the side of caution so according to that you could get just shy of 400 to a tank !!

you converted to diesel or chip fat or something ?

LP,
Funny, I was cruising down the A1 from Amsterdam as well yesterday! And although I was without the missus I was as well driving with an egg between my right foot and accelerator. Partly because I did not want to empty my tank within one day but mostly because of all the high risk of being stopped for speeding. A1 and the ring of Amsterdam are full with cameras. My problem is that after sometime driving very calm and low fuel consumption there comes the moment my right foot wants to go his own way....... and avariage consumption is back to normal :?

I was on the 57 for most of the way, but i suspect that i did get a camera flash on schipol aproach road on thursday evening last week. I was next to another guy in a bentley, so dont know if they can tell who was speeding - (there are no markers on the road). Think I might have been doing 118 in a 100 !. Never mind!

Was trying to fit a MRS deactivation switch in the main centrestack seeing as i have a couple of blanks, but everytime i try to attach the wiring harness to the main MRS unit it goes in to overdrive with a lot of error messages , then freezes for a couple of hours and overnight it shuts down completely. Even the following morning it is sluggish to respond although memory seems to be faultless as ever! :D

Whatever you do, don't try and run the Misstress program at the same time, they seem to merge and create a total shutdown

Just been out for a "cruise" with Spokey and found out the reason why I get 370miles to the tankful - I DRIVE LIKE A PUSSY !!!

Drive to work = 31mpg
Drive with Spokey = 23mpg

Currently I get about 27mpg average (city/highway/road).

On single day tours (e.g. doing the Klausen Pass; David & Tim know which one), I get about 30mpg even if driving more aggressive (sic! -- seems that the S50 is not very efficient at part load). If doing just lazy crusing, I can get even higher mpg.

In fact, the M's consumption is not much different than the 2.8 I previously owned, but far away from the must frugal 1.9. As an average, I got 35mpg, i.e. 380 miles out of a full tank with that one.
