Exhaust blocked, broken inside? & local car spotted

Post by z3chuckles »

Hi All

Not been on for a while but have been enjoying the Z3 most days (2.8 early 1999)

Coming home the other day, went to overtake, half way through, suddenly lost engine power and exhaust went whisper quite, I assume something has broken inside the exhaust system, has anyone experienced any similar problems previously, to be fair the exhaust s 13 years old so cant complain, and will remove but any advice welcome and very rusted!!!

P.S anyone in DY14 0 area who would like bacon sandwich in exchange for any help with driveway mechanics is welcome!!

Seperatly, there is a silver z3 m, red interior locally to me, around kidderminster with a private plate, wondered if anyone on on here?

Cheers all

No lights on dash.

Starts ok, no lights on dash, sound same as if you blocked exhaust with something, hence my thinking broken in side.

Not sure the bolts are going to be easy to remove after 13 years!!!!

rear section removed, still muffled, maybe cat has broken up, working through, next stage, the exhaust from manifold down.

Could possibly be the Cat blocking the pipe.

Thanks Gazza

Now all taken apart, the cat sounds like it have a large chunk of metal rolling around is best way I can describe it, defanatly where the blockage is. So now have an excuse for a manifold back system. :D

Will have to off shelf so can fit myself, as car in pieces, any recommendations, I do like the louder side of sporty and do have a budget to think off.....

You could look at Prospeed and Supersprint

I think you will have to put cat's on, it's a legal requirement now :(

Yes but change the rear box to perk up the sound :)

That's what I did. I bought a cat from http://www.cats2u.co.uk/ who offer a 2 year warranty. Mine failed after just over a year, and they replaced it next day with no quibble. I have also got an ANSA OEM replacement. Not stainless or any other thing, just the same size and shape as the original, but straight through and has a fantastic sound. Passed the emissions check first time every time with this. I am thinking of changing the manifolds to some XSPower ones I have seen on ebay. I have used these people for GTO exhausts a few times, and they are pretty good.
Cheers
