Door wont open, seats are wet, warning lights!

Postby RobGoldsmith » Thu 21 Jun, 2012 06:26

GRRRRR

2 weeks in and here are the issues!

1) The DSC and Brake hydraulic lights come on randomly during travelling

2) The passenger side door only opens 50% of the time

3) Today the driver seat was soaked through as was the carpet under and to the side of it, but the roof is not at all wet!

HELP before I return it in a very angry state!

Is it the inside or outside which handle which makes the door opening a problem, or is it the remote activator the issue.
As for the wet issue, I belive there are products for adults from a decent medical accessories supplier....... :D

Initially, I would get some lubricant spray in there and perhaps it'll resolve the issue. You will need to remove the door card, and raise the window fully and access the mechanism that way. Failing which, remove and service / replace it. While you have the door card off, you may as well check the linkages from the outer to inner mechanism, and give all mechanical connectors a little squirt too.

I imagine warranty wont cover any of these issues...?

Ive only had it 2 weeks, I might just take it back and ask the garage to sort it as i know very little about cars

If you have a warranty I'd try and use it. I'd certainly expect it to cover the DSC/brake warnings and the door not opening. Not sure about a water leak, but I'd just blag it anyway if I were you and make it clear that you expect these things fixed.

Hopefully these turn out to be the common simple problems...

1) Most likely culprit is a dirty wheel rotation sensor

2) Most likely lacking a bit of lubrication

3) I'd guess at the top of the drivers door seal where it meets the roof - there is a simple fix that involves gluing a piece in.

Cheers R.

I fixed the leaking along the back window, the leaking around the windows might be fixed, I told someone last week and they said they would realign the windows or something. You could see drops coming down from the black seal at the top of the door before!

The garage I bought the car from has so far paid for everything which is great considering how long I have had it! I rang him yesterday and he basically said Get it fixed and I will pay for everything". He also gave me £50 petrol and a free MOT on top. Cant fault him, just a shame that the garage fixing it cant locate the actual problem! They have spent so long on it and keep saying it is fixed, drive home, bam two warning lights!

The garage fixing it is a BMW specialist garage with BMW equipment and trained staff but isnt actually BMW, they have one more chance!

I hope they fix this! :(

These two could be linked, The sensor for the DSC is located under the drivers seat below the carpet covered with a plastic cover. The location of the sensor does fill with water so could be causing your fault.
