The viscous fan is a reverse thread...ie. Undo it as if you were thightening a regular bolt.

I removed my viscous fan recently. I made a tool to go over one of the bolts on the fan pulley and rest against another then use the 32mm spanner to undo the coupling. Reverse thread so undo as if you were doing up a bolt. Once the coupling is undone you have to remove the two plastic rivets at the top of the fan shroud and the lift the fan shroud and fan out as one.

When refitting reverse of above and just gently tighten the coupling onto the shaft. The engine rotation pulls it tight and won't come undone.

I managed to get my fan off without the special tool, I used a long 32mm spanner and gave it a couple sharp hits with a rubber mallet and it loosened off no problem. I did replace the serpentine belt afterwards though.

I am not sure that this is a 'recommended' method though, I was getting desperate at the time!

I have removed mine that way, a sharp impact in the right direction is fine.
