Ive got a few small chips around where the radio is and want to either touch them up or repaint the dash. So how do I find out what colour the dash is and has anyone taken one out to repaint?
My other thought is covering it with some sort of plastic with a carbon fibre look but any suggestions welcome.
Dashboard painting
Re: Dashboard painting
Not taken a dashboard out to re-paint it but did take mine out to fix the extended leather trim. Not that technically challenging but lots to take apart as you can see HERE

Re: Dashboard painting
You could consider using the brushed aluminium trim panels which are available - they stick ontothe dash, and fit nicely around the heater controls, radio etc. I thhnk they lok a bit 'Blingy,' but they could be painted matt black before fitting, or there are carbon-fibre effect panels around too.
A Z3 is not just for Christmas - it's for life!

I painted the centre console when I swapped an ///M version into my 2.8. Details here

Re: Dashboard painting
im getting this once i finish other bits. I had it on my old Alfa GTV V6. Its really good quality. I wouldn't fit the hole pack as there are some bits that might look a bit tacky, but the centre console one loots good and quite like the facelift version. Lots of colours available too. Im undecided between carbon fibre or brush allum.

Re: Dashboard painting
I wouldn't recommend stick on tat, it always looks rubbish IMO. Some Z3s had the proper aluminium console from the factory so perhaps source it from a breaker (tend to be later 2.2/3.0 SPORTS).
I've just recently painted parts of my dash and went through about 5 shades of matt/satin blacks which I found weren't "matt" enough and eventually discovered Chalkboard Paint which is a normal spray can paint but is design for creating blackboards (sorry, Chalkboards) anywhere you spray it. Now I'm not about to start writing on my dash parts but the reason I settled on this paint was because it was much matter than the satin and matt blacks I used and gave a fairly OEM look to the trim (I have painted my console black which was previously light grey) closely matching the plastic switches in the console (matt and satin blacks tend to be too black if that makes sense). The finish seems tough and durable so far.

Re: Dashboard painting
I purchased the genuine aluminium one from ebay which is found in the sport models, one has just come up here from the same seller. I had to pay import tax on top of around £18 if I remember but it looks great in the car.
Although I have just covered my old centre console in carbon fibre so I'm thinking of trying that one out for a bit as its come up really well
