excessive revs

Postby rnchance » Sat 11 Aug, 2012 09:54

Hi new to the forum as we have just purchased '99 2.0 6 in black. v nice and v enjoyable, however, being used to diesels wondering if it is normal for these beasts to rev quite so much between gear changes. When changing gear, foot off accelerator, foot on clutch, the revs seem to go on climbing rather than falling somewhat - is this a part of the car's idiosyncratic charm, or is something wrong?
Cheers

From what I've read before, this is usually to do the Idle Control Valve getting stuck open, or the clutch switch failing. Here's a thread with the same problem: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=34897

Oh, and welcome to the forum! :wave

When my clutch switch failed, even a gentle gearchange would get the engine revving up by another 1500 rpm. If your car has the older switch, you will need an adaptor wiring harness - not too expensive or difficult a job.
