I bought my zed.........a zed :)

I noticed a link in a thread last week, a guy was selling a 3.0 engine and gearbox with 36000 miles, it came with a few extras.

The whole rolling chassis, picked it up from Worcester this morning:) the doors in the picture were not included.

Best part is I paid £300.00 for the lot :)

bar the obvious, what's wrong with it? Can't see any major crash damage. Would make a great dedicated track car....

Yes initailly bought as a donar car, the car was a cat C but to be honest the damage was not bad.
the_youth wrote:What's the plan? Rebuild?
Not sure, it would make a good track car but would need to find all the body panels again. I'll get it home and decide over the next few weeks.
the_youth wrote:bar the obvious, what's wrong with it? Can't see any major crash damage. Would make a great dedicated track car....
The car was sat on the owners driveway, the owner was using their second car and forgot to put the handbrake on, it is rolled down the drive and pushed the zed into a wall. The damage is on the rear trailing arms and a small amount rear bodywork next to the rear bumper mounts.
Del wrote:Probably get your "investment" back just on those rear lights with no orange bits :D
Rear lights are goosed, if I parted it out I would easily get my money back but is worth more to me for parts, the car is a couple of months older than mine so almost every part is useable.

The guy was in Worcester, real nice guy.

It is him, he has a prefacelift 2.8 in the garage with the Cobra kit half fitted. I got a new sill and front wing off him.

I have an element of 'M-styling' on my car, If that's a good enough reason for the manufacturers to adorn a 320 with the M badge, then its certainly a good enough reason for me..

The guy is a Mr Dewhurst, copy of his post on KitCars site:
KIT CAME TODAY,

like a fool i bought a set of roll hoops/bars off ebay, thinking i,d find mounting brackets and rear stowage to match easy.OH no i wont.breakers only wanted to sell me the whole lot £400-£375 etc.
anyway to cut a long story i,ve bought another z3 3.0 widebody facelift 2001,
for the bits i need ie hood ,roll hoop kit,..
the car is a genuine 35000 mile car, rear bumper and passenger quarter damage, but the engine/box excellent.
ive listed parts on ebay but if anybody is looking for doors, engine, etc let me know.

He has bought some chrome mirrors and welded the door mirror holes up, and has bough a load of lights to fit the Kit, Apparently the headlights are BMW mini ones. made up his own exhaust too,
I asked him why he was not on the ZRoadster site, and he said because people on these sites don't like these cars being changed.
I said I definitely wanted to see this project and so would a lot of other members.

A re-covered steering wheel from http://royalsteeringwheels.com/
Alcantara top & bottom and perforated Nappa on the sides.
PLUS and Alcantara gear gaiter. Both with ///M Coloured stitching.
Very pleased with both, the workmanship is exceptional, and Jack is a very nice bloke too!
Very pleased indeed, it lifts the interior and feels much more special than the standard item.

I just bought some red/white rear lights from here:

http://www.carparts-online.de/shop2/BEL ... WEISS.html

With the current euro rate, they are a few pence under £50 including delivery to the UK! :)

Would have been £142 from BMW, but the Meyle pt no. is 3141520013 (£29 from eBay). I could have got it a bit cheaper, but decided to go with someone with 100% feedback. It looked 100% original and if it is fake, it's a very good fake.

Part 3 and I'd might as well do an oil change as I have to drop the oil to do the job.

The o-ring seals the baffle for the oil pick-up pipe.

Not sure not fitted to mine, must be for something fitted in another market?

Old lights took some getting out been in there undisturbed for 17 years. Only held in by the two 8mm nuts needed a tap with a hammer to free from body.
Only other tip, keep an eye on the rubber seals as you draw the new lights in using the nuts as they can pop out. Other than that an absolute doddle

It's to allow fitment of a coloured indicator bulb, the have slightly different pin configuration on the side, one pin high and one pin low.

I got a fresh pair of Avon ZV5 tyres for the back of mine, so it passed the MOT and I put six months tax on it.

Been out today having a drive as it's been SORN since last September. Shame I can't lift the hardtop off on my own as the OH is away and I don't think it will be as nice weather tomorrow when she is back and can help me lift it off. It sounds far too tame with the hard top on; I much prefer driving it with the roof off.
