'M' badges...

Post by Dougblack »

Right, call it a stupid question....

I have the 1.9 M44 '98 Z...

But I have a few M badges floating in it, specifically, the gearknob.. (Ok I know a previos owner may have put that on),

(like this one....)

Image

but the steering wheel, has a small inlayed 'M' badge on it, size of a fingernail, not stuck on but inlayed on the steering wheel - I cant believe someone would have done such a minor badge afterwards... Why would I have M badges inside in these locations??

Looks like below (note below is a google job- not mine, but the m badge inlayed at the centre bottom like this one...

98% of NON M z3 roadsters have these little M LOGOS they were all added by the factory, sadly it does not make our zeds M roadsters, Its the same as sticking a M badge on the boot.they wont go faster.pete

I know it isn't a M Roadster, just wondered what they signified, if they had 'tweaks' or anything done, don't understand why they'd put em on...

I'd advise you to go to http://bmwvin.com and enter the last seven characters of your VIN. In some cases a M-steering wheel and knob can be an indication that you have a m-chassi. :rtm:

'M steering wheel - multifunction' - which mine isn't (only function it has is steering the car and the horn) and says power 103 - every other bit of literature says mines the 140bhp... Confuzzled...

Standard equipment for both items. The ///M logo only indicates that they were styled by BMW M-division and are sometimes referred to as M-tech.

AFAIK the M44 1.9 was never fitted with M-tech suspension - that was only fitted to the "sport" models - e.g. the 2.2 sport.

Why am I looking at screen grabs from your iPhone with you battery charge and the time on them? :?

103 is kw = 140 hp
It was a long shot. I had it on my 2.8 1998 and I discovered that I had M chassie and limited slip differential.
