50 Years of Bond Cars

Post by BladeRunner919 »

Next Monday, BB2 there is a Top Gear special - 50 Years of Bond Cars.

I assume the Zed will get a showing, though not sure how favourable. Classic and Sports Car did a similar roundup recently and it was listed as one of the worst. Something about looking like a slipper!

To be fair i wouldnt expect it to be ranked highly against a slew of astons, lotus etc.

I seem to recall a Sunbeam Alpine? in the first film Dr No so the Z3 can't possibly be claimed to be the worst :bawl:

It should get some credit for actually being an affordable Bond car. Much as I'd love a classic Aston, I can't see myself ever owning one. And certainly not for 'Zed' money!!

Given hammonds overly self conscious and affected quiff, i guess hairdressers feature heavily in his life

No denying it though, we like our cars but 90% of other people think it is a hairdresser car, i must get told it on a bi-weekly basis. It wasnt very well advertised in that film either, he hardly used it.

I wouldn't ask his advice on anything, least of all which car to own.

Lol i have yet to watch it, i will on catch up

But my friend test me last night to say guess what car came near to the bottom the Z3 (Hairdressers car)

Goldeneye did not do the car any favours, it was suppose to have all these weapons when clearly it had none, its like me going up to my Z saying i have rocket launchers in the skirts, you just wont buy it, then Pierce Brosnan ponces along the cost in it for 30 secs lol.

The Z3 in my opinion is up there with the Best looking car on the road thats affordable and prob best looking BMW there is, just looking at it at every angel it is sooo much better looking in my opinion than the Z4 the Z4s front looks like a Shark being T-Bagged and the Z4s rear looks like a fat american girl that needs to go on and diet.

My Z3 is only a 1.9 and 0-60 takes 2 days, but i dont car because i am a cruiser and i would quite happily drive from Plymouth to Monico for a swim, then if i realised i forgot my Speedos i would quite happy drive back and then back to France again just for the excuse to drive her.

You talking about 'speedos' isn't helping our cause against the hairdresser comments. :D

I hope it's on iPlayer a bit longer as I won't get chance now until next week. I accidently recorded some other Bond program last night instead of this one (and it was rubbish as it was a re edited show from the 40th anniversary).

When it was shown in the film, it visually wowed the public...then some got to drive it and as it only had the small engine it never lived up to its looks and became an instant disapointment...if it had been released with the 2.8 it would of been an instant hit..unfortuantly first impressions last.

I think if they'd used the M Roadster (if it was available, which it wasn't at the time but anyway "if") then I think it'd have had a better impact, but as in the doc there was no real use of the car in the film, just pure product placement, no real bond car gadgets etc. It was also an awful colour too!
