Seemingly unrelated issues!

Post by z3ben »

Hello, my first post, although I have been lurking and taking useful information for a while!

My engine light came on a few weeks ago (2001 1.9 Z3) and I've been ignoring it, without any serious ill effects but for a lack of power and the odd missfire. It idles perfectly though and the only other thing I notice is a 'bogging down' at wide open throttle.

I've had it code read, and I know the Bosch codes don't mean a great deal, but possibly someone can link together the following faults and the above description and provide some pointers?? Surely there must be a common fault??

CODE DESCRIPTION FAULT

AB Fuel supply Short to B+
8D Lambda Control Faulty operation
7D Oxygen sensor Short to earth
7E CAN signal from ASR Open circuit

Suggest you get yourself to a tame independent BMW specialist who has the BMW computer diagnostics. Don't go to a dealer.

Even if it costs you one hour's labour at £50 it might be significantly cheaper than longer term damage.

If you say to the forum where you are someone will let you know of an independent BMW specialist locally.

Or find a forum member with Diags.

We really should have a sticky where people can list what diags they have and where they are.

Good call. I'm just outside Hull, East Yorkshire. Anyone any ideas? Or better still anyone that can help with the kit to read it?

Many thanks, I'll get myself in there on Friday and see if it narrows it down a bit!

Hi
Seemingly unrelated issues! I am in Australia but I am from Hull I used to live at Longhill Estate, I went back a couple of years ago and people said that Hull was pretty crappy place :colourful: but I thought it was quite a nice place even after 40 years.

I was posted to RAF Leconfield in Jan 1970 but ended up with a flat on the Hessle Foreshore road - before the suspension bridge was built.
I was a young lad then so had a great time throughout the region especially in my Ford Cortina GT - I thought it was the bees knees back then.
I left in '72 but went back just for a quick look really in 2002, but it had changed. The atmosphere was different, the ports had gone and it had the reputation of being the place of the lowest wages in England (I believe Swansea was listed as the lowest in the UK). But then, I was different, I was looking at it with very different eyes. Maybe it's never a good idea to go back to a place of your youth expecting that frisson of excitement again.
Ah, those fish wives....a delicate breed.
