Steering Wheel Air Bag Help

Post by TitanTim »

Hi all,

Does anyone know much about the pre and post facelift steering wheels and airbags? As far as I know the prefacelift wheels had a single stage airbag and the facelift had a dual stage airbag.

I've seen this wheel on e-bay but have a feeling it was fitted on pre-facelift models, however looking on BMMiniparts and RealOEM this style of wheel is shown for my Zed being postfacelift so a little :?

This is the wheel,

Mine is the larger airbag covered design.

I've asked the seller is the airbag with this wheel is single or dual stage but the seller doesn't know but I suspect its single stage.

Does anyone have this style of wheel fitted to their post facelift zed?

Cheers

Tim.

Not me if that helps. I've got a facelift model.

That wheel is a Single Stage Airbag system. If your car is dual stage, then don't waste your time. I have replaced the same SRS steering wheel on my pre-facelift with a Z4 wheel, and have the exact same steering wheel complete with airbag. I had to fit a single stage airbag into the Z4 steering wheel to suit the car's set-up.

Agreed - single stage airbag wheel, as fitted to the original Z3 before the M-badged wheel, E36 and so on.

Thanks for the info all, my suspicions were confirmed :( I understand you can do a bypass so you don't get the airbag warning light but I think I will leave it.

Thanks again,

Tim.

I have an element of 'M-styling' on my car, If that's a good enough reason for the manufacturers to adorn a 320 with the M badge, then its certainly a good enough reason for me..

I prefer that steering wheel to mine. I had one on my Z3 and was disappointed to see that the M Roadster has the bigger centre.

If I can get hold of a very cheap pre-facelift wheel I may replace the one I've got.

Why not try one of these.

Thanks Frank, I dug out an old 2001 brochure and this type of wheel is shown as an accessory upgrade so that could be an option.

I've seen this one which has been retrimmed but off a 3 series, just pondering if it would fit, seller says it will fit late Z3s?

Edit, just realised there's no airbag :head:
