Wide bodied

Post by huntert »

In the opinion of the forum, did the face lift improve the rear end of the wide bodied Z3 or not? I personally like the older shape better..but am i on my own with this?

I'm with you, prefer Pre-facelift but haven't seen any clear rear lens units for the older model. For facelift, regularly available on eBay.On the same subject, more used body panels available for later models.Internally,ours,1997,is very basic whereas the later models are far better looking with more gizmos but I don't know if these were options or standard.Happy Boxing Day to all on the rig,I'd like the money but not the job!

Thanks, but the money isnt that great when you work it out over a 14 hour day, every day for two weeks..and then you dont get paid for the next two weeks. I think its about average. Thats 94 hrs a week. Most folk would be on time and a half and double time for at least 54 hours of that. We dont get anything extra..even for working bank hols ect. The good side is working two weeks then having two weeks off.
Oh and there are plenty of clear lens rears and angle eyes for the pre face lift..i know..ive got some. :)

I also prefer the more rounded shape of the pre facelift.

Huntert, interesting about clear rear lens, thanks,I'll keep looking. All Z3's take the same size headlight so no problems there.

Huntert, the Pre-facelift and the facelift take different size rear lens.None you've highlighted are described as fitting 1997-1999.The smoked, which I'm not after, look the right size but the others look like the later model, I.e, post 1999.

The post facelift are a different shape, they have a square cut out at the Top. I have fitted the clear ones to my car :)

Look here at the difference

Those ones Huntert has shown are all pre-facelift, no wonder you haven't been able to find any if you are looking for different ones. :D
There are only two shapes
Prefacelift are straight down where it meets the boot.
facelift are scalloped where they meet the boot:

Clear. smoked, orange are all lens colour variants but the shapes are the same.
(The only other type is the Coupe which are different again..)

these pre-facelift lights appear regularly on eBay, more so than facelift.
I'm confused as where you see a difference between the smoked and clear? :puzzle:

PS I have have 4 Z3's , one of which was pre-facelift, but its facelift all the way for me. just looks more curvy on the back end.
But its only opinions, I am sure people have bought the version they like, and not what they think others would rather them like

I have an element of 'M-styling' on my car, If that's a good enough reason for the manufacturers to adorn a 320 with the M badge, then its certainly a good enough reason for me..

Facelift for me, just a nicer shapely rear end, pity BMW never did the M as a facelift :(

I think that the facelift, wide bodied version looks a bit more masculine - but then I do have a vested interest in stating that

I do like the pre-facelift but has to be the widebodied for the stance. I just prefer the rear lights the way the rear wings flick up over the prefacelift.

Similar but I just prefer the number plate between the lights rather than the bumper..

This all boils down to personal taste.. But if I had the choice I would choose the older shape Z3.. Even though I had a facelift 2.8

I didn't have any choice since I wanted a 3.0 as didn't think the extra was justified in my case for an M (in which case I would have just gone by condition rather than either version). However, I do like the wide bodied look of my 3.0, so I'm quite happy. What I don't like is the look with the hardtop on, but at least it's keeping the car dry now despite making driving it seem a bit disappointing as it's almost too civilised and I can't hear the engine so well.

so shall we agree that the best shape is entirely dependent upon which car we actually own?
and the best colour is obviously the the one that is on our drive.

Who'd have thought? :D

Would it also have to be silver with a recently renewed blue roof, normally hidden by a hard top.....by any chance?
