Spare Wheel

Post by Vic-Z3 »

In my attempt to rectify the water ingress into my Boot Area..................

Thought I would take the spare tyre off and have a look.
Just as well I did as it needed a bit of attension.

Apart from the small stones, old leaves and moss that lurked inside the plastic holder
the wheel itself had started to get some surface rust also the Air Tube extension pipe.
So out with the wash bucket, wire brush and the Krust. Stuck some air into it as well, as best I could.

Well worth the effort to do this little job............ :)
Found this floating around in there .............

If anyone can tell me what that is, please do :?:
Can someone tell me if the right hand side Cage Fixing rubber washer should be flat as the left one or should it be shaped
to match the under body shape :?:

Anyways back to the Roof leak .......... :(

Hi Vic,

Can't help you on the little piece of plastic

Regarding the spare wheel I started a thread a while back, as I store mine in the boot now to keep it in reasonable nick.

Although an expense I would consider getting the tyre replaced as I imagine yours will be well over 10 years old and as some have found out disintegrate quite readily when used. Luckily I found a replacement wheel and new tyre off e-bay for 35 quid.

Tim.

Hi Vic,

I cannot be certain but the small plastic part look like a sleeve which fits around the handbrake cable, it could have flicked off and landed in the wheel well.

Cheers

The little plastic is "part" on the basket which hold the plastic tray and the wheel. It fell off as well on mein when I changed my spare wheel. It's not very usefull, if you really want to put it back where it should be I'll take a picture later.

Nice one Pierrick ........ When you get a chance, no panic..... :)

I will check out the date stamp on the tyre, which on the face of it looks unused and is a Continental as well.
I will put it back under the car inside a heavy duty plastic black bag .......... I need the Boot space.....

As it is so easy to get the wheel out ..................................

Please do so and check yours NOW

I have an element of 'M-styling' on my car, If that's a good enough reason for the manufacturers to adorn a 320 with the M badge, then its certainly a good enough reason for me..

I must admit to not valuing the spare wheel after being so used to carrying a tin of tyre weld and a compressor. I'll be taking out the spare wheel completely to make way for a dual exit exhaust - form over function! Wouldn't have it any other way!
