The Most Expensive Z3 ever?

Post by John1950 »

Last year I posted a topic "Is this the most expensive Z3?"
It was being sold for £23,000 and I thought the seller was dreaming!

Today I spotted this on E-Bay, it's a wonderful machine technically, but the power output is no different to the normal M series - but look at the price!
Your thoughts?

I think the quoted power is for the standard car based on it's reg no. You'll also see that it shows as a 3.2l engine despite having a 5.0 v8. Does suggest that it's still listed with the DVLA as a 3.2.

it wouldn't be my choice of car if i was spending that. It says it is the sellers personal car of 6 yrs with over £50k invested, i think the seller may be valuing it as to what it is worth to him, rather than what someone is likely to pay for it.

similarly, on a smaller scale, I could not sell mine as the car is worth more to me (mentally) than the market value, so i would have to put it for sale at £5k+ to consider parting, which would obviously fail to produce a sale. if that makes sense?

That's a lot of money for a car with an engine conversion, I would be asking who did the conversion and how well it was done, mind you at that price extremely well I would hope. Personally I would prefer a genuine M3, power output not much different and becoming very collectable. I have found cars with engine conversions have a limited market.

According to some chap on Z3 M Coupe Forum who had looked at it in the dealers, ASM, the conversion is a bit crude. Quote "When I saw it the engine conversion was quite crude......Iffy looking engine mounts and some "lazy" engineering solutions." They've had it for sale for since early last year, won't be many takers at that price. The S50 Z3MC that they have up for sale at ASM has been around even longer, a bit rough round the edges I believe. The V8 MC has been in a few magazine articles lately, maybe hoping to drum some interest.

Another expensive Z3 MC was the Hartge version. If you follow the skydrive link in the pistonheads article it is mentioned in the BMW Car Mag a figure of £80,934 as the cost back in 1999 to buy one (they only built one). It still comes up for sale occasionaly on Pistonheads in excess I think of the £39k of this ASM car. Some good reading in the articles below.

As Pete says that been for sale since I started looking for ours in September 2011 so it's either overpriced for a project car he got bored with or poorly done. I'd rather spend 20+k on an original one like these
