For my daily sensible/boring driver with a tin roof, I bought one with two digits followed by DER twenty years ago, viewed it as an investment when we had the recession in the early 90s. My guess proved right.

The great plates are the ones you dont need to move things about
like alfie's, moving things about and altering spacing attracts the old bill
There are some amazing plares out there, i have an app that tells me what plate is on what car
I know RAY1 is on a Rolls Royce Phantom and GAZ1 is on a Bentley Continental and its blue
JON1 is on a ferrarri Califonia

Thanks for the compliments... :D
It was a really special find, and not too expensive because 111M doesn't really mean much except to BMW nerds. Generally at shows, the plate gets more interest than the car!

Yeah, it's just the 111 is slightly slanted and it has 'Alfie's S54 ///M Roadster' in the bottom corner, none of which misrepresents the characters or prevents the plate being read correctly by ANPR. The font and spacing is all standard.

I've never been pulled, but the car hasn't done a lot of miles in the last few years, and until last year (when I took it to a different place), it passed the MoT without question.

When I first got the plate a few years ago, two separate traffic cop mates both said they wouldn't tug me just for the plate, but would probably have a word about it if I were pulled for other things.

But.... as we all know, politicians and the DVLA don't have much else to do apart from petty and unnecessary fiddling with and tightening of regulations, so I fear that I'll probably be more prone to unwanted interest as time goes by. I also carry a spare set of plates, but I don't think the "Oh sorry officer, I'm just on my way home from a car show..." excuse will cut the mustard these days!

Cheers.

I have mine illegaly spaced, but only on the front. the chance of plod being in a position to see the front and then pull you is much smaller than them seeing the rear one and pulling you. nice and legal on the back :)

only time this theory failed was when i a ticket with the car parked in the street :(

I have an element of 'M-styling' on my car, If that's a good enough reason for the manufacturers to adorn a 320 with the M badge, then its certainly a good enough reason for me..

There is a set legal spacing on a plate between numbers and the letters
The cameras are set to read these
It appears the letters and numbers can be moved as long the spacing is legal

Not for me. I'd be afraid to park the car in a public place.
Badman Gee must be big 'n butch - or or bent as a trailing arm suspension link to get away with that.
Me, I'm too short, of slim frame, tight buns and willowy white hair - and always attracted men of a certain leaning so I'd prefer a more 'discrete' plating so to speak.
But girls, I'm as straight as a die - and available....
