Newbie :)
Hi guys, I'm going to go and pick up my 1998 Z3 tomorrow (unless I've been completely scammed off ), I've bought a pretty basic model mainly because it's been extremely well kept and runs lovely (I'm lucky enough to live with a mechanic who came and checked EVERYTHING!!)
This will be the first car I'd have ever bought myself, my previous car, bought for me by my parents, was a Micra, so some would say there's a "slight" upgrade going on
There's currently no heated seats in this car and I was wondering if any of you have had fitted or fitted yourself the heated seat packs that you can get ? How difficult is it ? My car will have electric seats so the wiring is there...
I was also thinking of fitting a new radio which has a flip out screen and integrated gps, the good thing with this is that it comes with a fascia that makes the whole unit look like the old school radios
[http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 1100181599]. Have you guys had any issues with people breaking into your beloved cars for stereos ?
Thanks

Hi Yeti
Welcome to the forum
I was hoping to see some pics of the car
I started with the 1.9 great car
Basic means nothing, its a Zed that all that counts
Regarding the heated seats, i have used mine twice in 14 years
I do believe you have all the wirings there for most upgrades, I stand to be corrected there
Yes a radio upgrade sounds good
Keep looking for that sun
Mind you i was out with top off yesterday, a bit cold but "Fantastic"
This is an fantastic knowledge base
Enjoy

Re: Newbie :)
Hi Yeti,
welcome
I use my heated seats everyday and wouldnt be without them.
It is better to get seats off eBay with them already heated as they will just plug in to wiring already under the carpet. Then you will need two switches, again they can be got from eBay, and these also just plug in and work!
some on eBay now that are heated:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1998-BMW-Z3-C ... 257c26b68f
it's an example and may not be suitable as they have a beige surround, (which could be swapped over) but you can see what I mean.
Far easier than using the separate heater mats.
You could also use the opportunity like I did, to get the heated M/sport seats.
Most things can be found on eBay or in Breakers due to the age of the cars, so a 'basic' one can be easily upgraded inexpensively.
Its also part of the fun.
By the way the only thing to watch for with that type of radio, is the screen will be in front of your heater/blower vents, so they would no longer be able to be used when it is up.

Z3 1.9 Sport Progress Journal (Wifey's)
I have an element of 'M-styling' on my car, If that's a good enough reason for the manufacturers to adorn a 320 with the M badge, then its certainly a good enough reason for me..

Re: Newbie :)
Welcome to the forum Yeti...Good to have another newbie....
It's possible to have seats made into heated seats, but the kit required plus the installation makes it prohibitive. Reality is to find another set of seats with the heating function already installed. After that it's very simple. The "retro radio" is cool, if you need the functions it provides.
FYI, if you go to the Z3 knowledgebase, and search there for any specific info on most common subjects, you will find excellent and in depth coverage. A simpler message is to do what you have just done, and pose the question, I'm sure you'll have your answers with directions to specific topic info within a day at most. The guys here are all seriously OC, and will disect / discuss and argue a point until the essence is revealed.

They won't refuse your case if you put it forward to them, you'd just have to admit to owning a handbag (or manbag as you may like to call it )gookah wrote:What with the gender equality in insurance nowadays, I too want handbag cover when I next insure.
