Confused !!

Post by kingy1 »

I know, I know another bloody thermostat post, but in short does anyone have a quick link to a site either UK or Worldwide for a cheap OEM thermostat for a 1.9 1997 M44, ive had a lot of success recently from members who have saved me quite a lot of money from their recent searches, so thought id try again, thanks in anticipation.

are you after the thermostat only, or the thermostat housing also?

I reckon these must be linked to the servicing lights in that when the car gets to around 10-years + old they suddenly stick open. :D A BMW main dealer one is about £40 plus VAT and they are £30.60 at http://www.carparts4less.co.uk/car-thermostat

Thanks for info lads,
I think for the 1.9 M44 it's all one unit which incorporates the thermostat and housing, of course I've been wrong before!!!

I am doing the same research at the moment and carparts4less seems to be the best for stat and housing - need to make sure axial gasket is included. I am looking to replace pump and belt whilst I'm at it. See Martyb's recent thread on `sad times expensive times'. Del suggested the Meyle pump - their part number is 313011340 (OEM 1151039338) - trying to get a price from them is a pain - filled in the online enquiry form - got a reply from Germany telling me to contact UK office ( thought I had). Contacted UK office who say they can't tell me but to send my postcode and they'll tell me the local agent. :head: :head:

Ebay link for Meyle water pump

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0789643627

When I bought my thermostat from BMW it already had a rubber seal/gasket recessed into the surface that mated to the block - I therefore assumed it was an integral part of the whole unit. I suspect all the thermostats are made by Behr regardless of where you buy them.

I changed the thermostat (and housing) and waterpump on my M44 a few month ago;

I bought a meyle water pump for 32£ (advanced factors in southampton) and thermostat+housing from BMW for 49£.

Parts numbers are:
water pump: 11510393338
thermostat: 11531743017

The water pump is one of the cheapest on the market and Meyle has a good reputation so you can go with that.
And for the thermostat, the cheapest I found was on GSF car parts for 34,32£, but I don't know what brand it is.

Good luck.

Thanks for info guys. I have ordered:
Meyle pump from ebay(BMWmotormec) £32
Thermostat inc housingfrom Carparts4less £30.6
32mm pulley wrench Amazon £7.00

Can get a ribbed belt from Europarts for £15 - fitted one looks Ok but don't know its' history so will change it.

And last but not least Meyle came back to me with local stockist who when contacted said `We only deal with trade customers' :!: :!: ( Meldrew "I don't believe it") :head: :head:
