Z3 radio reception issues

Hi all, something which is bugging the hell out of me, I wonder if anybody here has successfully resolved a similar issue.

My radio reception (standard BMW head unit) goes in and out of reception all the time, we're talking pull forwards a meter and we have radio, then another meter it's gone and so on. Plugging in an after market head unit does improve it but doesn't cure it which tells me 2 things:

The original BMW head unit isn't that great
The problem lies elsewhere

Any experience of this? As always help is much appreciated :thumbup:

Also forgot to say that the whip aerial can sometimes fail, had this recently on my daily drive, luckily the Z had the same aerial, swapped it over and it instantly improved reception.

The sport rod aerial is not as receptive as the longer standard type in some areas.
